Posted by Will Cover on 6/21/14 at 11:27 am00
Back A/C unit won't turn off. Even pulled the batteries from my thermostat.
Suggestions on what is causing this?

Bad relay? I'm not an expert but I play one on the OT.

Yes, trying to determine if A/C, thermostat or something else in between.

Is it actually cooling,or is the compressor cycling, but the inside fan staying on?

A/c not turning off in June is a bad thing?

Mine did that once. It turned out to be a contact in the outside unit that fused together. It wasn't very expensive.

I take that back, not cooling ... just hot air.

Fwiw, if you just want to shut it down until you get someone there, there should be a breaker outside by the unit that you can flip.

Check the compressor...is it frozen over?
May just need to thaw, but if that is the case, you are probably low on freon.

Update. Breaker switch is off. Batteries have been removed from thermostat.
Inside unit still running and it's getting hot.
I have another unit that cools the main living areas of the house and it's fine for where we are most of the time. The one with an issue cools 3 of our 4 bedrooms.
Any other suggestions while I wait for return call from A/C company?

I had the same problem last couple of days. It was a bad connector on the compressor.

Time to go up in the attic.

Right now my inside unit is staying on, the outside goes on and off, I changed the thermostat and that hasnt helped. If anybody can offer any help it would be appreciated.

There may be a breaker on the inside unit, but you can kill it from your panel so you dont have to go in the attic.
