Everything from tax exempt status to drug test to concussions and ... the red skins.

Looks like congress has found a common enemy.

Excuse my stupidity, but why should they have a tax exempt status?

Late last month, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.) spearheaded a letter urging NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell to drop support for the Redskins name.

“It upsetting to us because we don’t understand why they can't just address this issue and move on,” said Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.), who signed the missive.

Because its none of your concern you stupid bitch.

Have the same question. I'm not saying I disagree with it, but would like to hear the argument for having it at this point.

My understanding is that the NFL "front office" is the only part that is tax exempt. Because they pay out teams for certain things and then the teams pay the taxes. This way taxes are paid twice fore essentially the same thing.

I would imagine college football conferences are structured in a similar way. I don't have a problem with it

I'm almost to the point that I am for a flat tax for everybody and every organization with zero exemptions except for marriage and kids.

Quick answer why they are tax exempt is because they are a trade association.. Money is paid to the league and filtered to the clubs and subsequent taxes paid.. They do get some unintended benefits such as financing which shields some monies from taxable events.

I'm surprised that the Dems aren't going after Alabama. Their mascot is an elephant. They should change it to a donkey.

Why would anyone take on the NFL. It's pretty much the most popular organization in the country. Far more popular than the retards on Capitol Hill.

Friggin congress.

They really shouldn't. I can't think of a single reason why they should have it.

That said, on the list of things that Congress should be fixing, this is nowhere near the top of the list.

Congress must not be happy with their 7% approval rating. Trying to get to 0?

Harry Reid needs to be in a mental hospital.

The individual teams are not tax exempt.

The NFL itself is tax exempt because it is an association similar to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce or any other industry group.

I've wondered this about government not having to pay taxes. Here is this big arse company, IRS, taking in all this money and distributing it towards other entities that answer to it. In fairness I'd think the IRS should have to tax itself on money it collects. If not, then I don't see anything wrong with the NFL skirting the issue.

If you really really really want to get into a crazy conspiracy theory... Guy at work says the end game is to disband the NFL because "they" want to eliminate the primary outlet of male aggression in order to foment WW3.

I'm just glad that we are doing so well that we have moved on to the lesser important issues.

We need to flush everything out of DC and start over.
