I personally like him but idk how he is perceived throughout the state or the board for that matter.

I remember when he was first running and said that it was a shame that 911 just happened bc he will lose just bc of his ethnicity after that happened. Glad he pulled through.

He starts a thread here once a day railing against Jindal's Hollywood tax credits. It's pretty predictable.

What about you?

There's a reason Louisiana was one of the least effected states of the recession and a reason it's growing and booming with the oil industry. It's quite simple really...

And wtf is wrong with the tax cuts? Is it not bringing money into the state?

Eh, he seemed to lose interest in the state after his second term started. He's definitely eying the national stage and is making ideological decisions rather than practical ones at this point. But I do think he's making a few good stands that will affect the state in the long run i.e. Medicare expansion.

Bobby Jindal has done a lot of good things including bringing a lot of good business to this state but there are so many things that he left on the table it's very disappointing. He's the best governor this state has ever had but that's really an indictment on the shitty governors we've had.

The next year and a half will be about mailing it in and sustaining his national profile.

Well, between Katrina, Chinese Drywall, and BP disaster, we have gotten a pretty big influx of revenue, of course the question would be did/does that offset the damage from the above?

I'm no expert on the subject, but it sounds as though they're not necessarily tax breaks but rather tax credits that can be traded or used otherwise. So (as I understand it) they pay no taxes while here then get additional tax credits on top of that. I think that particular poster says that those credits far outweigh the economic injection the service industry gets while companies are filming here.

I think he has been successful, per se, but the tactics, e.g., the heavy handedness, the ethics, etc, are a serious concern IMO. He seems almost like Obama in his unilateral steamroller attitude.

The transferable tax credit program is a subsidy. It punishes those who don't give money to the movie industry by levying a tax against you if you don't buy tax credits from these private entities.

well said. He has done a good job over all. I was expecting a lot more and its disappointing there is so much more he could have done if he had focused just on Louisiana and not national attention.

That and he's a phony conservative. His views are formed after raising a moistened finger in the air to see which way the political wind is blowing.

Similar to when Clinton increased taxes on social security recipients, right?

Pretty accurate imo. The likelihood of getting a governor that is the full package is slim to none.
