WWTOTD- 9 yo daughter ran into wife's car with polaris

My parents live .5 mile away, both of us have polaris rangers that my daughter begs to drive constantly. She has never driven ours without me next to her with me giving her every direction. My parents have let her drive theirs a decent amount. My mom comes down to pick up the girls today to go play at her house. For some reason she backs the polaris up behind my wife's car, and obviously leaves it in reverse. My daughter gets in, with my mother next to her (she's letting my daughter drive), starts it, gives it some gas, freaks out as it goes backwards, punches the gas and nails the back of said car. I think I'm more mad at the idea of how dangerous this could have been. I haven't said anything to my daughter yet, I figured I would come here and let some steam blow off before I do.

1. How mad would you be, and at whom?
2. What is the best way to handle this as a parent. Does she deserve punishment? Does she get off because she is just 9?
3. Anyone want to estimate this repair?
4. How would I search online for junkyards with front end damage black enclaves?

You let your 9-year-old daughter drive.

She 9? Yeah, if you can tell that she feels bad, just let it go. shite happens and it probably scared the hell out of her.

Be lucky she wasn't seriously hurt. We've seen kids at work become paralyzed from those things or 4 wheelers tipping over and landing on their legs.

Explain to daughter what happened and that it is you and your wifes fault for not teaching her proper safety and to check that its in park before starting.

She feels awful.
Also really frustrating that just yesterday she laid a guilt trip on her mother and me about wanted to drive by herself. I told her no way, just too dangerous, then this happens.

I didn't want her to be. I was at work. She was with my mother.
With that being said, I'm constantly conflicted because I was driving way bigger stuff than that when I was that age as a farm kid.

I hate to see the young drive vehicles like this.
It's a disaster waiting to happen and you ought to be fined for letting her drive it. Her feet probably barely reach the pedals anyway.

You don't base punishment on the amount of damages.
I agree with those that blame you. It is after all, your fault.

I figured at least that much. Anyone know if it would be cheaper to just replace the lift gate instead of repairing it? The side panel looks like surface damage.

Get there, I know a family who just lost an 18 yr old new hs graduate son in an atv accident last week. What happened at your place is nothing.
When I was about 14 my dad and brother were moving something and had me back the pickup into the garage- well I had a split second panic and almost plowed over my brother hitting the gas instead of the break but managed to stop in time. We laugh about it now. You can tease your daughter for years to come- look at it that way. Go give her a hug.
