I got my MRI results back today and the nurse referred me to a neurologist because they found "white matter changes." Can anyone let me know how bad this is? The nurse couldn't give me much info and I asked for the doctor to call me to explain things. The only thing she said was that it's odd for a 30 year old to have this, she said it's more common in older people. TIA

Shame on them for not properly explaining things to you. So did you ever speak to an actual dr? If so, call back and ask more questions until you feel comfortable and understand. If not, keep calling and demand a call back in order to gain clarification.

The nurse couldn't give you a medical opinion, but a bunch of strangers on the internet definitely can!

Maybe you should have seen an Optometrist?

I don't think nurses are supposed to be interpreting MRI's and providing you with their impression before it goes to the doctor.

You might have a lawsuit on your hands.

I called twice already, still haven't heard from the doctor. I would assume it's not too serious since the earliest appointment with the neurologist they could get me was in July. Just looking for some answers, it's kind of nerve racking not knowing. I googled it and I got a bunch of different answers, the worse being the potential for MS, but the symptoms for that didn't seem to fit mine.

The nurse couldn't probably because she didn't know shite about shite. The dr should properly explain things to this guy rather than having him worry himself over something that could be nothing serious at all.

Same exact thing happened to a neighbor of mine. Scared the shite out of him. Turned out to be something minor with his veins or bloodflow or something like that. He was prescribed some meds for a few weeks but was/is fine.

I saw the optometrist a couple months ago and everything was fine.

I agree, I don't think the nurse is at fault, she probably doesn't know how to read the MRI results well enough to offer an opinion. I think it would have been nice for the doctor to explain things especially when it involves something with my brain.

I can totally understand it's nerve racking. However, stay off internet for now. It'll drive you been more crazy and probably fill your head with a lot of inaccurate information. I know nothing about this diagnosis but I know enough about how the medical field works to know not to listen or pay attention to some bitch nurse who doesn't know how to treat a patient. Again, I would call and emphasize the importance of a call back just to gain clarification from the dr. The dr should call you today after patient appointments. You shouldn't have to go all weekend worrying.

Doctors office just called back and said the doctor won't be in until Saturday and he may not get back to me until Monday. Talked to the nurse again and she said it's probably not serious, but they won't know for sure until the neurologist runs some tests. She said not to worry about it, so in gonna go with that for now.

Good for you for calling back. Don't worry yourself and wait for call from dr. I still think the dr should have explained things to you upon referring you to neurologist.

The nurse, or more likely in this case the technologist, are not allowed to share test results or findings with patients. The images will be interpreted by a radiologist, which usually happens the same day at most places, and a report is then sent to the physician that ordered the study.
