Long story short, my apartment is no longer paying for cable and our lease is up in August so we've cut the cord (it was going to cost upwards of $70 just to get cable again for a month). What are some decent TV antennas for catching local news in BR? We already have an X-box 360 and a chromecast for streaming stuff, and a friend's password for HBOGo and ESPN3. We're planning on signing up for hulu+ and netflix.

Any other advice would be appreciated.

It's only temporary. I'll be in a new place and paying for my own cable very soon. It just didn't make financial sense to pay for all of that stuff for such a short time and then have to pay again for installation and crap less than 2 months later.

Is it possible to still have an indoor antenna? My complex won't allow outdoor arrays.

That seems really cool. Is there any way to hook it into my existing coax system running through my apartment so all of our TV's currently hooked up to the cable could use it?

I have a leaf in my Attic at the moment and had been trying to figure out a way to do the same thing. One thing I read (and it may be propaganda to sell more antennas) is that without some sort of amplifier you may run in to signal loss problems, especially if multiple tv's were being used at once.

I ended up hooking up my cable internet coax in to the splitter outside on the house that ran the signal to all the existing coax. That gave me pretty much the same options as the antenna did for tv (although on different channels) but without HD.

Just a heads up, Plug the coaxial into your tv to see if your cable provider is still sending the basic cable feed before buying anything.

I tried the Mohu. It sucked balls where I'm at. Could work for you though.

And a heads up on splitting the signal. The more times you split, the weaker the signal.

I could try this. My roommate and I each have TVs in our bedrooms on the second floor and a big TV in the living room. It would be pretty clutch to be able to get local channels on all of them.

Im about to pull the trigger on a Mohu Leaf 50 for our gameroom and a Mohu Curve 50 for our living room. Buy a separate antenna for every TV. People complaining bout the signal getting weak when it's split - yea, that's going to happen. They werent intended to be split. Ive heard alot of good things from the new Mohu's and one of my best friends has been using one for about a yr with no problems.

I don't really care about HD this month because there's no sports on network TV and I really just want this so I can watch the local news before work and at night.

not talking about HD...talking about the signal constantly going in and out or not getting it at all

Click here to see what you can expect to pickup from your home.

The link I just gave will show you how far away you are from what towers and what channels you can expect to pickup and give you a better idea as to what size antenna you may want to look in to with regards to a 30 mile range and up.

Depending on where you live, you may need a much nicer one but I started with the cheapest one I could find and it works fantastic.

Basic Antenna

I don't even have to have them fully extended so you cant see the antenna behind the TV. I recently moved to ATL from NYC and was apprehensive they wouldn't work as well, but I pick up all of the majors completely clear HD with no issue.
