The New Orleans Pelicans confirmed on Thursday afternoon that shooting guard Anthony Morrow has decided to opt out the final year of his contract and become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.
quote:

Morrow is likely to command a salary that exceeds more than $3 million per season and could extend up to at least three years. Meanwhile, the Pelicans have at least $7 million in cap space and they are exploring all avenues to improve their roster, including having discussions with several teams that may want to trade their first-round pick in the June 26 NBA draft.
quote:

One of Morrow's closest friends on Pelicans' team is star power forward Anthony Davis, who like to see him get re-signed.

''I think he's a great shooter and spreads the floor for us, Davis said earlier this month. ''I like him and the team likes him. I'm not sure what they're doing, but I think they (front office) have the best interest for the team.''

it was a player option, the FO didn't decide for him to opt out, I think Davis is just hoping they offer him a new contract

Exactly, there is absolutely nothing management can do and I would hope AD understands that at this point.

Doesn't sound like he's doubting them to me. Clearly says he thinks they have the best interest for the team in mind.

we all knew this would happen. Hopefully he will give us a chance to match and we can keep him. I like Morrow a lot. He is the type of solid guy you can build the second half of your roster around.

Sounds like he does based on his comment.

"I'm not sure what they're doing" is "I'm not sure what their offer is going to be" not "I'm not sure why they let him go"

ETA: I love Morrow on this team. Just can't overspend on a limited role player.

First of all, AD understands the business angle.

Second, I really think Morrow would prefer to stay, but it's in his interest to at least test the market.

Anyone trying to find something bigger than this is being ridiculous. This says nothing about how the team sees him or he sees the team. He sees himself as underpaid if he picks up his option, and he's right. He can still sign with us, but it will come closer to market rate. Opting out was always going to happen after the way he played last season
