How are in-group matchups determined after the draw?

When the 8 groups are set, are they seeded 1-4? Seems like after the first wave of games in each group, there have been a lot of winners v winners and losers v losers, leading to "elimination" type games.

Do they anticipate who the think will win the first two games and try to pair them up for the next wave, doing the same with the anticipated losers?

I'm not going to explain this as well as others can. They don't "pick the groups after the 8 seeds like, say, the NCAA baseball tournament.

They seperation seeding and location (or, they don't want too many teams from the same confederation in one group) and pick from there for each group.

In a round robin scenario where the top two go through, of course there are going to be "elimination matches". But it's not easy to predict who will be in these matches. I mean, I wouldn't have picked Uruguay to be in this "elimination" match. Most people expected costa Rico

I get how the draw works with the different pots and geographical considerations, etc. I'm talking about any possible seeding 1-4 within the 8 groups after the draw.

I get that. But it seems like in most groups the second wave of games (games 3 and 4) are winner v winner and loser v loser. They are happening right away as opposed to the last wave of games. Just wondering if they try to "plan" this.

Here's a link to the draw for this world cup. The actual draw starts halfway through.

Ummmm, I think it's maybe half and half. I admit there are a couple of groups I haven't really watched bc I have no interest in who's playing, but yesterday's matches were winner v loser. Today has an elimination, but the US group is winner v loser as well.

I do agree with the fricking of the US though, lol

All of that is just "random"

IT is set up before the draw. Position B1 will play B2 on the second match day at X location.

They then draw a team to be in Group B from Pod 1 (or whichever Pod they are on), and then draw which position they will be in Group B (1-4).

And so on.
