Heard a while back they switched manufacturing companies or something. Their hand tools still as quality as they were back growing up?

Got my starter kit 182 pc set for free today through Rewards. I was ashamed to be 28 and not have a toolset.

Yes. Milwaukee, Dewalt, etc want you to believe otherwise

Hand tools are decent. If you are 28 and just now acquiring a tool set Craftsman will suit you just fine.

I've always had shitty sets and half sets. But I see what you're doing. Insulting me.

Yea, they're not exclusively USA made. I don't know when it changed. I'd say wrenches, sockets, other single pieces are fine, but I've noticed a definite change in quality on ratchet handles, for example. I haven't taken them apart to see what the deal is, but newer ones aren't as "robust" as older ones ... FWIW.

I've never had to use it, but the lifetime warranty seems legit. Bring in a broken tool, get a new one.

The sockets, wrenches, and most other hand tools are fine, but their ratchets are garbage.

If you take a broken USA made ratchet in for warranty. Don't let them exchange it for the new cheap ones. Ask for a rebuilt kit and keep your old ratchet.

Hand tools are still legit. Do your research for power tools.

This.
New ratchets are junk.

I have a Craftsman combination wrench set that is 20 years old this year. I recently bought a 3\8 torque wrench when the price dropped to $40 despite some of the reviews by, most likely, the same crowd that shops for Yeti coolers and think they need a Snap On torque wrench to do basic jobs.
Like any tool I'd wipe em with a rag lightly soaked in oil and WD40. They'll last you a lifetime. Don't worry. 28 isn't too late. You did good.

I'd love one of these.

LINK

Hard to justify at that price though, even if it is top quality German kit.

I believe their hand tools are still made by danaher, who makes several other brands.
