Do you make your own mind up and not mention it? Do you send that down the food chain to give them the attaboy? Do you praise in the group, in private, or based on the situation and feel?

Went in to praise someone this afternoon and was told that this Supervisor makes their own mind up about someone in that sense. Just sort've makes me wonder if that's a good mindset to have?

Personally, I evaluate the situation and the context, and then try my best to pass the good word down quickly. But what say the OT?

Well, you definitely communicate like a supervisor. I didn't understand a word of that.

Rule of thumb:

Praise publically and punish privately.

My company has a recognition bonus system. Anyone can give any of their coworkers a spot $250 recognition bonus. It's posted to all employees.

Our president used to send out a quarterly spreadsheet that included client praise of employees. I'm not sure why that went away.

I guess, my feeling is individual praise can be used as a motivator to others, if done right.

Well, first of all, you don't refer to your employees as being "down the food chain."

Based on what I just read, I don't think it matters how you tell them they've done a good job, cause there's no fricking chance they're going to understand what you said.

Let them know when they are doing good based on your companies policies, and in turn discipline them in the same way.

Sometimes discipline can be hard but at my first job one of my workers said you got to make people toe the line it's either your job or theirs and they sho ain't help pay yo bills if you get fired because of them. The next day they will be laughing and partying.

1. Pat him/her on the back for a job well done
2. Get angry b/c you didn't get the praise
3. Call them in your office for a "meeting"
4. Dock their pay for subverting you in public

PROFIT!

Is this the part where I comment about you obsessing about me based on the fact that you responded in a thread I started?

Oh wait, that's your tired schtick. Not mine.

Carry on.

This is probably the part where you edit your initial post; it's incoherent.
