Has a player ever gone from most beloved in a city to most hated?

With the main caveat, while still playing for that city's team. I'm trying to think of examples of this, can't come up with any obvious ones.

If Dwyane Wade opts in and as a result, lebron opts out and leaves, I'm wondering if there is any precedent for what is going to happen to Wade in the aftermath.

Closest I can think of off the top of my head was A-Rod post 2009 World Series. He certainly was not the most beloved but had a earned a lot of goodwill with his postseason performance and helping the Yanks win the title. And then, well, you know.

It might still depend on how the Heat performs after all of this.

If Miami fans turn their back on Dwyane, they deserve to be collectively donkey punched.

He definitely wasn't as beloved as Wade, obviously.

But Yea, that's a good one considering he still actually "plays" for the Yankees.

Wasn't Mark Sanchez the golden boy of New York after 2 straight AFC championship games?

Fast forward to butt fumble and I don't the city was done with him.

I should clarify, I don't mean currently popular, I'm moreso thinking all time popularity. Like Wade, for example, he's a top 2 all time beloved Miami athlete.

He was not the sole reason they got to the AFC title games.

A-Rod wasn't as beloved as Wade to start with, but he's definitely most hated in NY

No one really care enough about the heat for it to be that big of a deal.

They don't have a loyal or passionate fanbase.

How about Favre crashing training camp in Green Bay before going to Minnesota? Is that close enough to "still playing for that city's team"?

Although a lot of the hate probably came about once he officially became a Viking (and started winning).
