Anyone here watched a game at Wrigley from one of the rooftop clubs?

My Dad wants to go to a game when he comes to town and I was thinking about doing the rooftop thing. Are the views decent enough to make it worth the money?

Sorry I can't help you, but I'm sure it would create a memory that would last a lifetime. It would be a tough decision to have roof top seats vs sitting in that grand old ball park.
Went to see the red Sox play a few years ago and had a great time.

Several times.

You should sign up for Living Social and set your preferences to receive Chiago deals. They're constantly offering seats for $80-$100 per person, which includes all you can eat and drink. In fact, I got one within the past few days so you might just go straight to their website and check it out. It's an awesome experience. Hope you guys enjoy.

ETA: and yes, the views are solid. Literally right across the street, so it's maybe 60 feet further than the bleachers??

Went with a group of 10. It's a great social event, not so much for being fully attentive to the game.

Food was solid and all you can drink beer.

If it was me and my dad, I'd rather be in the stadium.

Yea it's a fun atmosphere. You'll be doing to have a different exprience, not watch/enjoy the game, but to enjoy a different take on the game.

I'd choose the bleachers (so long as you're not by a bunch of meatballs) anyday though.

ETA: I'd also suggest staying out of the one really tucked away in right field. Can't remember the name, I think it's skybox but I don't want to say for certain.

I've been to many rooftop games and to be honest it's good if you have a large group. If it's just 2 of you then I would recommend not doing rooftop. Tickets inside the stadium are cheap enough because the north siders are god awful.

My trick is to wait for the 2nd or 3rd inning, then try to scalp tickets outside the park where you'll save upwards of 50% because the scalpels want to get rid of the tickets.

Again, I would not recommend going to a rooftop with your father. I live a few blocks west of wrigley.

CHIPs25 has a great point here. However, I'll add that in the last year or so, the scalpers have done a much better job colluding. In many cases, they'd rather eat the tickets for a given game than sell them at a deep discount -- this prevents them from driving the behavior Chip described. I'm not saying it's impossible, but I can tell you I lived at Grace and Seminary (literally a five iron into left field from my roof deck) the last two years, and I was turned away more than once with no tickets. This wasn't a big deal for us (and maybe isn't for you and your dad either), but if you have a fixed window to see a game, I'd at least keep this in mind.

All that said, I tend to agree with the other posters that the bleachers are by far the best Wrigley experience. In my previous post, I'd sort of assumed you and your dad had probably already done that though. If that's not the case, then by all means, bleachers, hands down.

One last thing to keep in mind is that the bleachers aren't going anywhere anytime soon. However, the fate of the rooftops are very much in a perpetual state of jeopardy, so it might be worth it to check that item off your list while you can.

Anyway, that's my two cents. You can't really go wrong either way.

Thanks for the help. A big reason I was thinking about the rooftops is I know they won't be there much longer. I'm getting the tickets as a Fathers Day gift since he works overseas and can't really bring many material things back with him, so I don't mind spending a little extra. It will be at the end of July so I was thinking the shade would be very convenient as well

also for tickets, 95% of the t-shirt/umbrella/ etc vendors have tickets to sale. I have gotten mine from the peanut vendor as you get off the El to the right like you are going to Murphys.

As for the rooftop, agree with everyone else..if you are in a group...great time...if just you two, not as much.

The best seats that you can ever get are first row in the 400 section. This is the overhang above lower level, you're in the shade for the majority of the game and you typically get a nice breeze coming off the lake.

Have y'all ever been? If not I'd recommend sitting in the bleachers, drinking some old style and bullshiting with the people around you.

The rooftops are a bigger party than the bleachers and that's saying something. Would rather say I've been in Wrigley.

I'm sure the all-you-can-eat stuff is nice, but wouldnt you rather be IN the stadium?

I'm sure it's something cool to try once.

I stand corrected. Old Style is still for sale in the stadium it's just not as easy to find as it once was.
