Officials

Help this soccer novice understand the officiating.
Before the match, 4 officials enter. One is obviously the referee. What do the other 3 do? I'm guessing 2 of them call the offsides? Are they on the same side of the pitch or opposite sides? And what does the 4th do?
Thanks in advance.

2 assistant referees are the guys on the sideline holding the flags. They are on opposite sides of the field and only cover their half of the field. They never cross midfield. Their main job is to watch offside and when the ball goes out of play. They can also raise their flag to signal to the head referee that they saw a foul.
The 4th official stays on the sideline between the two benches. He takes care of things like substitutions.

Thanks for the explanation.
And shortly after I posted the questions I saw the 4th offical hold up the sign announcing a substitution.

I believe the 4th official also keeps track of things like fouled, cards, goals, etc. in case the head ref forgets to write it down or something happens. I believe they can all communicate with each other through small headsets.

Glad you started this thread, figured this would be a good place to ask this question since it relates to officials.
Is there an official language for WC matches?
Like if one team speaks French, the other team speaks Arabic and the official(s) speak Portuguese, how does the ref communicate with the players?
I know alot of the players play in other countries and can probably speak more than 1 language, but is there an official language?
Sorry in advance if this is a dumb question or has been answered elsewhere on here.
NM, my question probably won't be answered since this is anchored for some reason. (Title I assume)
