I think Jurgen is 100% right fwiw. It's time someone called out the Lakers for that retarded contract. Kobe is just in denial, doesn't realize he is washed up.

"I thought it was pretty funny," Bryant said in Brazil, where he's taking in three World Cup matches. "I thought it was pretty comical, actually. I see his perspective. But the one perspective that he's missing from an ownership point of view is that you want to be part of an ownership group that is rewarding its players for what they've done, while balancing the team going forward. If you're another player in the future and you're looking at the Lakers organization, you want to be a part of an organization that takes care of its players while at the same time, planning for the future."

so much butthurt

"This always happens in America," Klinsmann, a native of Germany, said in the interview. "Kobe Bryant, for example -- why does he get a two-year contract extension for $50 million? Because of what he is going to do in the next two years for the Lakers? Of course not. Of course not. He gets it because of what he has done before. It makes no sense. Why do you pay for what has already happened?"

Kinsman is right, but he's from a different environment so his comments have to be taken with a grain of salt. In Europe, when most soccer players turn 30 their value decreases dramatically, and continues to do so until he retires. Kobe is a Beast but you don't give guys who are on their last legs in their careers 24 mil a year.

What was he going to say, that he didn't deserve his pile of cash?

I think Kobe handled it as well as he could, actually.

Both are somewhat right

Kobe doesn't sound butthurt, just selfish and delusional.

It's easy to see both sides of the argument. Klinsmann does have a point however.

Doesn't sound butthurt. He is trying to rationalize the contract but it's far from angry or "butthurt".

I hate Kobe, but he's far from butthurt here. I don't disagree with what he said necessarily

Im assuming Klinsmann said this in relation to questions about the Donovan stuff?

As Kobe alluded to Klinsmann is somewhat in a unique position to where he can judge players 100% on whether or not they can play the game. As long as they put on the American jersey no player is above the team or means more than the team. There is no "franchise player" because there is no franchise. Also there is no bottom line. Kobe sells tickets in LA. His name brings far more to the box office than a younger guy of similar caliber.

Kobe's contract is dumb though.

1) Kobe has more than earned any money he gets.

2) Whst was he supposed to say? That he got one over on the ownership and they were dumb for paying him?

He handled it well.
