I don't think a 3D display/camera is all that special and I don't see navigating with eye/head movement as much of a competitive advantage either. Maybe they'll do something like any Amazon content doesn't count against your bandwidth.

I'll tune in tomorrow to see what this is all about, but so far it sounds like all-gimmick to me.

Anyone have any idea what the price point (subsidized and not) might be?

Amazon doesn't go for cheap as much as they go for value. They also don't want free loaders. I'd guess the standard $99-$199 with contract and either a generous amount of data or a certain amount of the data used on Amazon services don't count towards your data cap. They aren't trying to win the phone wars, they're just trying to give people another avenue to buy Amazon products.

That makes sense.

I'm that case I'm probably not interested. A pretty large chunk of our household budget already goes to Amazon. Definitely doesn't need to be any easier for me to push that order button

I was hoping this would compete with the flagship phones out there. Oh well.

htc's second sprint flagship(the follow up to the very popular evo 4g) phone was 3d. the 3d feature was so successful that it didn't make it to the next evo. if people wanted a 3d phone it would have already been on the iPhone or galaxy. nobody wants 3d on their phone.

This.

On a side note, this all reminds me of that 3D DS that Nintendo released. Absolute failure. The thing have me a headache just looking at it in the store.

So will you have to wear 3D glasses to look at your phone?

No. The reports are that it's glasses free 3D technology. There are multiple eye tracking cameras that help display the image so it appears 3D to you.

Once they can figure this out 3D will no longer be just a gimmick.

I can't wait for Jaws 19!!!

According to this article, there's speculation that it will be either free or really cheap to Prime customers.

Amazon’s biggest hope of shaking things up is on the business and service side, perhaps with a bargain device that comes with cheap or free service to buyers who also subscribe to its Prime shipping and media-services bundle.

Not an android fan as I'm not into all the sweet customizations this board is all about. And I own a MacBook Air.

As per this phone, I just love Amazon so I figured it would be in the running.

So you've seen it already? I'm not expecting to be impressed, but the only thing we "know" about it are it's alleged 3D capabilities.

I'd imagine that if you buy this phone, sign a contract, and pay Amazon the monthly charges, you'll get Prime for free. If they aggressively price the cost of the phone and the monthly rates, they could gain a ton of business at amazon.com just with the free shippin that Prime membership offers. And, they don't even have to try to make a profit on the phone or service.
