I currently have Comcast for Internet and TV. Bill is very high but service is pretty consistent and I am happy with choice of channels.

Question to the OT - is moving to one of the Dish services worth it? Is the service always spotty during rainstorms? What sort of deal should I ask for?

It is worth noting that I currently have the Sports Package, HBO, Showtime, and Cinemax.

Would you recommend alternatives for internet as well?

I've had Dish for a year. It's gone out for 10-20 minutes on 4 different occasions of really bad weather.. But it is usually fine during rain.

With either Dish or Direct you'll get the first 3 or maybe 6 months of premium channels free.

I do have Cox for internet though.

Just prepare for the trip from hell you're about to partake on when you cancel Comcast. I highly encourage canceling Comcast and going to a corporation that doesn't treat you like shite, but they'll make your life a living hell for a month or two. They're no better than the Mafia.

comparing Comcast TV to DIRECTV is like comparing a Yugo to a Cadillac

seriously its not even close, technology has come a long way. DIRECTV uses a new SWIM technology and the dishes are wider and have a bigger sweet spot. my dish has gone out maybe twice in a year and it was back on within minutes.

picture quality is night and day and the new Genie vs anything Comcast has is a joke

Directv or dish will be cheaper during your contract then it'll go up and you'll have to renew or switch providers again

I have had pretty much all of them at one time or another and honestly, haven't seen a lot of difference in price for the mid-grade packages...basically just gotta pick out something that suits your fancy and go with it...

sattelite does go out for a minute or two during the heaviest of rains, but if adjusted correctly, that is very minimal...

whatever you do, be cautious as to the introductory packages, as they will expire and you may be contractually bound to a higher price for a time after that happens...

fwiw, one good thing about switching providers periodically is that you get the latest in equipment...other than that, it is all kind of a pain in the arse...
