How good was he as a coach? I was a kid when he was a coach so I don't remember specifics. Is the Saints management more to blame than his lack of success? Best press conferences of all time btw.

Aside from Bum Phillips, Jim Mora, and Sean Payton, the Saints head coaches have been garbage.

Mora kept the progress Bum started going, and the Saints did not have a losing season from 1987 to 1993, after going 20 years of never having a winning season.

His conservative coaching philosophy, allegiance to his idiot OC Carl Smith, and the Saints' mismanagement in the draft and free agency did him in.

I don't have many fond memories of Haslett as HC.

I met Haslett once in Cordova mall. He lost that team after year one. I don't think its connected.

Ol Hank wasn't a bad coach. I think he was much better than the players.

I think you need to add Hank Stramm to that list.

Mora was a good coach who's hard head kept him from being a great coach. Very stubborn man.

Still think he should have given Jake a chance. Aaron Brooks needed to be benched.

I won't argue that. And clearly firing him brought us SP, but I don't hate Haslett as a coach.

He was a really good coach. Very conservative and wanted to win games with the score being 3-0. Carl Smith was his albatross. Hated ol' Curley.

He wasnt that bad, though he should have given Jake a chance. Brooks did ok but after a while he turned to garbage. Just remember the D we had back then. Damn

This is what cost the Saints a Super Bowl when Mora was the HC.

If I recall correctly one of them was the godfather of the other's children. We could take a 3-0 lead on the first possession and then attempt to run out the clock.

He dropped off pretty bad but he did give us a great first season and that playoff win. How often did that happen before Haslett?
