What say you. Wife and kids have I-Phone fives.

I would go to your carriers store and try out different phones. If you are going to go with Android I would get an LG G3 and if you're going to get an iphone I would wait until September.

In your case, it's a no brainer. Get an iPhone 5. Dumbed down os is easy to use and if you get confused your wife and kids can obviously help you.

Go to an AT&T or Verizon store (which ever your with) or a Best Buy and just play with the phones. Get what you like and what fits your needs. Period.
I have an iPhone 5s and I like it. I buy what I like as should everyone. If android is what you like and fills your needs, get one. If an iPhone is what you like and fills your needs, get one. If you like another phone and it fills your needs, get it. I really hate the whole android versus iPhone arguments. There will always be a feature or task that one phone can do that another can't or does it better than the another and there will always be pros and cons, that's just how technology works. Buy what you like and what you need.

If wife and kids have iPhones, you should get an iPhone too. Period. Reasons - simple interface, easy photo sharing, iMessage, FaceTime, AirDrop, AirPlay (Apple TV), Continuity (Mac)....etc.
When iOS 8 (new SW) is released in October, you will be able to share music, apps, movies etc. as a family. You only need to buy stuff once and everyone in the family can share it. It's a no brainer.

I have a G2, but the G3 looks really nice. If your family has iphone5, that's still a good option for you, and it makes sense with your family already using it

As others have said, iPhone is probably the way to go considering your situation, but if you can hold out until September/October, the new iPhone 6 will be out and it will be a pretty significant upgrade. Much larger screen size and lots of rumored features that may or may not happen like wireless charging.
