Some shows I've had in rotation recently....

5-5-77 Veteran's Memorial Coliseum - New Haven,CT - beautiful Sugaree and a rocking St. Stephen

10-2-77 Paramount Theater - Portland, OR - killer Scarlet->Fire, especially the mu-tron soaked Jerry solo after the first verse of FOTM

7-17-89 Alpine Valley - I have been listening to 1989 shows a lot. Tons of great shows scattered throughout the year. This one is solid from top to bottom.

10-9-89 Hampton - probably the best from 89. The Felt Like A Stranger, Built to Last opening sequence is a great funky way to start things off...also has the huge Dark Star bust out.Really fun stuff.

12-6-89 Oakland - one more from 89. The work between Brent and Jerry on the Shakedown opener is intriguing.

2-11-70 Fillmore East NYC - home of the famed Dark Star->Spanish Jam->Lovelight monster ft. the Allman Brothers and members of Fleetwood Mac

8-27-72 Veneta,OR - an old faithful. This version of Playin in the Band is one of my favorite jams ever.

8-6-71 Hollywood,CA - love the energy on this one, especially the rocking Hard to Handle

Been listening to that may 77 box set they put out. So many gems, estimated really kills it on that run.

Another show in heavy rotation is 2-9-73, my all time favorite china->rider and they debuted a bunch of new songs that day including a super fast they love each other. 2nd set is smoking.

The new acoustic 70 show from the family dog has some awesome primal pigpen.

Speaking of pigpen, favorite pigpen rap?

Mine is 4/17/71 from princeton. "SOLD! The brooklyn bridge!"

they just usually seem to be a little to slow and don't rock out enough for me. At least the shows I have listened to.

Go for 70-73 shows. Highest tempo Dead there is. Skull & Roses is a great starting point, as is Ladies and Gentlemen....The Grateful Dead, which both are pulled from the Fillmore East April '71 run.

my favorites are probably I Know You Rider & St. Stephen - and Going Down the Road Feeling Bad, but I think someone told me it wasn't a GD song.

I can't exactly say lolGD, but I'm with Edward. I never really listen to them.

I'm not sure I like their jamming style all that much. It always sounds like everyone in the band is just sort of noodling around at the same time.

GD doesn't sux, but I've never really gotten into it

check this one out for a rocker.

9/18/87

fast forward to 1:16 for probably the best post drumz/space segment they ever performed. Goin Down the Road > All Along the Watchtower > Morning Dew > Good Lovin > La Bamba > Good Lovin

Garcia is on fire during Going Down the Road > Watchtower and Morning Dew is one of their all time greatest moments. raw emotion. This is the Dead doing what they do.

also:
6/28/92

One of the best 90s shows over all, excellent first set as well as second. But the Casey Jones encore is the stuff of dreams. Only the second version played in almost 10 years (the first was RFK the week before). At the end the volume is incredible and the band is laying it down as tight as I've ever heard them.
