I've never been... the FIL wants italian (he is nola italian) and he isn't too fancy so I figured this was our best bet.
I thought about Ginos or little village, but figured this was the better place for what we were looking for.
Any must get dishes?
Is the dress casual?

I would take him to Nino's instead but if it has to be DGB's get the bluecheese walnut salad and the Osso Buco.

Get there early or expect to wait a bunch.

Shrimp in vodka sauce. It's not on the menu.

Is Ninos much better? Dude is a meatballs and spaghetti type of guy... not a super adventurous eater. Me on the other hand... i like good shite.

The food that comes out of Nino's kitchen is much better than DGB's food. It is more creative, has more thought put into it and the presentation is much nicer.

They are different animals though. Honestly, if OP guest is used to NO creole Italian, he might be better off going to Gino's.

He grew up mostly in BSL, but his family is from there. He doesn't eat that much italian food anymore...

You'll be fine in jeans with a nice shirt. It's small so get a reservation. Nino's is not the typical Italian restaurant, but it's a wonderful place. I saw some pics of some specials and of the tomatoes they're growing themselves.

For typical Italian, I also suggest Gino's, which I love. I also love Nino's. I had a terrific meal prepared by the chef on Mother's Day that I posted about. They make their own pasta in house. Maybe your fil will find that he enjoys other dishes and it will be a "who knew" thing.

Oysters DiGiulio as an app. I adore them. Mmmmmm so buttery.

I think they have the best eggplant parm of anywhere if that's your cup of tea.

It's huge. Jones and I split it.

Dress however you want. You won't be out of place dressed formally or casual

Prepare for a wait. It gets slammed. Grab a glass of wine and hang out outside.

The owner and bartender are cool as hell.

Everyone in the place knows each other. It's loud. I love the atmosphere.

Yeh, i don't want my MIL to fill out of place... she can be very vigilant of things and I don't want her to be uncomfortable. So, I think we are going to stick with Digiulio Bros since it seems to be a little more laid back.
I suggested Ginos, but the wife frowned upon the no prices on the menu online...

Eggplant parm and veal parm are solid. And of course there's the Veal Avezzano which is eggplant and veal parm. Pretty delicious. Lasagna is solid too.

For future reference, the chef and his wife at Nino's are young, laid back, extremely personable and nice folks. I think you'll see a variety of dress at all 3 places. My Dad wears a sports coat to all 3.

Put Nino's on the list for you and the bride for a date night. It's a an excellent restaurant and for a special occasion, you can call the chef and plan out your meal which is pretty cool.

Loved DiGuilio Bros but I would put up with the horrible 70's Decor and Surface of the Moon-esque levels of dust in Panetta's right by there for a chance to get an order of their lasagna...

They are great people and I was happy to see their other place, Oscar's on Perkins, packed for the game the other night. Elton loves what he does, and it shows! Nino's is such a great place.
