Thinking about doing one of the boat tours to see it. What say the OT?

Most Def. You will enjoy. Then get twisted on wine and do an arcitecture tour.

Yes, going to Sullivans to check out the stuff over there is interesting as well.

We just went in April. I'm a history guy, but even Mrs. Midnight enjoyed it - she got to try out her new camera. The weather might impact your enjoyment - it was overcast and very windy out on the island for us. You're only out there about an hour, IIRC.
We spent the day before at Patriot's Point with the Yorktown, Laffey and Clamagore.

That city is the next place on our list to visit, post pics if you can.

Yes, go. It is worth it.
Also, if you are really into history, go to the old Charleston Navy Yard and see where they are conserving/researching the Hundley submarine, and then stop by Magnolia Cemetery to see their final resting place.

Winner
Charleston, Savannah and St. Augustine make for a nice week's worth of travel and tourism. Jacksonville is drive-over country in this equation.

Thanks for the input everybody!
The weather was suspect today so we didn't do a harbor tour. We had a hole in our schedule so we sat through a time share presentation and got vouchers for a tour of Ft. Sumpter and a horse ride through the historic downtown area. I'll post pics tomorrow.

Yeah if you're into any kind of early American history Charleston is the place. Ft. Sumter was cool, we didn't plan it this way but when we and my family went when I was a kid it was some kind of anniversary and they had some reenactors out there that fired off some Civil War weapons.
To the OP, make sure you check out the Charleston Battery too. It's an awesome walk with old replica cannons and cannon balls that were aimed out to the fort, it's a good walk to check out some old antebellum homes as well.
Also got to see the Hunley when it was initially put on display.

Went about 10 years ago and I thought it was fun.
Definitely check out the Yorktown if you get a chance. The medal of honor museum on board is awesome, and just walking around the ship and standing on the deck with the airplanes is great

Just made that trip last month. It was tremendous. Worth stopping at Golf Hall of Fame. Played both courses there and then played a RTJ in Hilton Head. The history and beauty of the old cities is well worth the trip. Great food also !

It's worth it if you have the slightest interest in American History.
If you have extra time walk through Fort Moultrie as well.
