Anyone have experience with knee injuries in Baton Rouge? Where do I need to go to get a MRI done to verify the ligament is torn? Also, what doctors in BR are good for this type of injury?

Not me. Luckily, I am working 4-10s and I was off today! But that doesn't change the knee injury

Dr. Brent Bankston. Handles knee injuries for LSU athletes.

I second Dr. Bankston at the SSC facility on Bluebonnet. He repaired a knee issue I had years ago. Did a fantastic job.

You will have to see your family Dr who will refer you to a specialist. For MCL and ACL tears, look for a Dr who specializes in sports medicine.
That's what I did.
When I had my injury the Dr told me he was 95% certain I had a torn ACL and ordered a MRI. When he got the results he confirmed it was torn, however it was a functional tear and a contusion to the joint. Femur, tib, and fib were all bruised from the impact. Only needed physical therapy to get me back to 100% even though it took about 8 months.

Good luck, it's a scary injury for sure. That killed my wakeboarding days. I haven't done a single trick in 4 years because of it. It took a year just for me to get on the board again.

I recommend Dr. J. Broyles at Bone and Joint. He specializes in Knee and Hips.

I have had 4 knee surgeries and he seemed to be the most knowledgeable. He spent the most time discussing my situation with me.

I have seen two other orthopedic surgeons at Surgical Specialties on Bluebonnet who were both LSU sports docs. They were both so busy that I was lucky to get 1 minute of their time and felt rushed everytime I had an office visit.

Good Luck.

Sounds like a poorly handled case. Why not fix it and go back to normal activities?

I've got a follow up with Brent Bankston on Wednesday for knee pain/locking and a possible referral for a MRI. I work in workers' comp and Bankston is the number one doctor that comes up with regard to knee injuries in BR.

Not necessarily, depends on what kind of insurance you have. I'm on my wife's policy and it does not require a referral. I/we can go straight to the specialist if we know who we want to Tx with

Good job recognizing and issue and actual dealing with it. I heard a pop in my left knee once after killing a wii baseball pitch, and it swelled up. I could walk on it though, so I didn't see a doctor. It just randomly gets stiff and swells from time to time, so I bet there's still an issue there, I wish I had just seen a doctor at the beginning.

One leg squats. Called Bulgarian squats where you have the other foot on the bench.
