A guy I know is constantly posting on FB how Advocare allowed him to retire at 27 and live life by his "own design." It seems very cultish and sort of creepy.

Can the OT shed some light on this?

I think its a pyramid scheme. I know a bunch of people that sell it, but noone that actually uses it.

EDIT: Arse beat me to it

They do have some good products and the company has been around for awhile. I always thought they were a respected brand but for some reason they have greatly increased their marketing. I suppose this sector is becoming bigger and bigger and they realized they need to step their game up. For the record I have taken several of their products and think it is waaay overpriced. The shipping from their site is outrageous too.

It's pretty much "The Healing Place" of pyramid schemes that apparently isn't a pyramid scheme if you ask someone who pushes it. Yet when they explain how it works to you, it's just a bunch of accounting moves to make it seem like it's not a pyramid scheme to those who push it.

I thought it was a pyramid scheme. That is what I told a friend of mine that sells it. She assured me it is not. I guess that settles it.

Advocare has been around for close to 15 years, maybe longer. It used to be a good company and sold good products. There's nothing shady about it. Yes it's a type of MLM but that doesn't mean it's bad. It was virtually unknown to people up until recently. They must have decided to change philosophies and sell out.
The skinny: they sell overpriced, mediocre products that they get "distributors" to push for 20-40%. So you get a bunch of people who no zero about fitness/wellness selling you shite that you don't need to make them some money.

Pyramid, not a pyramid...we're talking semantics. It's a MLM. How that MLM is setup may or may not be a "pyramid" in the true sense. but basically it's the same shite. You make money for selling, you make more when you get other people to sell it for you. they can call it an isosceles triangle if they want to
