Old desktop (Windows Xp) has Outlook 2007. New desktop (Windows 7) has Outlook 2013. Basically using Outlook as POP mail.

Have successfully exported and imported contacts from 2007 to 2013 but cannot get the nk2 file to successfully import to 2013.

Here is what has been done:

Outlook profile name is "Outlook"

Have navigated in Windows Xp to:

drive:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

From there, have copied and pasted the "Outlook.nk2" file to a jump drive.

Go to new desktop and plugged up jump drive and put the "Outlook.nk2" file in:

drive:\user\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook

Pull up Outlook and start new message, "To:" will not auto populate addresses like in Outlook 2007 so it's not importing the nk2 file.

Pull up "Run" and type in "outlook.exe /importnk2" and start. Opens up Outlook but still will not auto populate "To:". So it's still not importing the nk2 file.

Any help would be appreciated.

Here you go

Seen that before. Trying to remember what I did to fix it.

Check the profile name. The nk2 filename has to match the profile name.

I've dealt with this issue a couple times this week.

Make sure the NK2 file is the same name as your outlook profile.

copy the nk2 file to drive:\user\AppData\roaming\Microsoft\Outlook

It has to go to the roaming folder. Don't know why; that's M$ for you.

Then run the outlook.exe /importnk2 and you are good to go.

Correct, new version uses autostram with a guid behind it to match your profile. Of you put the nk2 file in that directory and then run the import command you are good to go.

I had everything right and was doing all the right steps but you were right, instead of putting it in the local folder, it was the roaming folder. Did that and ran the /importnk2 command and they imported with no problem.

Thanks for the help.

I was banging my head against the wall over this. And finally I thought, let me see what this does, and bam. Don't know why M$ doesn't put that in their support page. How hard is it to add \roaming instead of \%appdata%\
