Snapper rod & reel advice?

Looking to get my Dad a rod & reel for snapper fishing for father's day. He has a few but really likes the spinning reels. Any advise? Won't be on the computer for a few hours so any help, thanks in advance.

Budget?
ETA: PENN® Spinfisher® V SSV7500 paired with a PENN® Bluewater Carnage™ Jigging Spinning Rod - 6'6" 30-80# Model
Spool it with 65# Power Pro and you're good to go. Should run you around $350 at the end of the day.

That'll work too. Just depends if he is a Penn or Shimano fan. We fish both on our boat and I like the feel of the metal bodied reels personally, but the live bait feature on the baitrunner is nice and we have never had issues with the graphite body of the baitrunner. The vertical jigging rods are 6 of one, half-dozen of another. Whatever one he thinks is prettier.

Seconded. It really depends on his price range.

I have a Daiwa saltist which is excellent. Not sure if this comparable in price.

I'd also recommend checking out some Okumas. We haven't been using them as long, but the spinners are pretty smooth reels.

The okumas I had didn't last and parts were hard as frick to find for them

Okuma makes some nice jigging rods that can be had for not a bad price that my brother really likes. Might be worth looking into. He buys them locally around NOLA though and I'm not sure where.

To everyone, thanks for the response. I've only used his snapper rigs a few times but I'm pretty sure this is the same PENN reel as his spinners. Definitely in the price range. With all the BS he does for me, I can get him a nice set up. Happy Father's Day to all of you.

One other question about the reel. I am not very familiar with gear ratio. Suggestions?
Normally fishing around 40-75 ft deep if that makes a difference.

I wouldn't be concerned with gear ratios on spinning reels for snapper. They'll all work. You should really compare line retrieval per crank as that will provide a better apples to apples comparison across different brands. The lower the line retrieval per crank, the easier it'll be to crank on a big, big fish but the longer it'll take to bring it in from the standpoint of total number of cranks.
Like I said though, all the big spinning reels aimed at offshore fishing are fine from that standpoint. It's not even something worth worrying about for snapper.
