I went to Patterson my freshman and sophomore years and actually had a few classes with him. Super nice guy. He was a year ahead of me. I moved to Florida and was surprised to hear that he decided to go to UF (surprised in the sense that I wasn't following recruiting at all back then).

Was LSU even in the picture for him? How did it go down? I guess I assumed a Hilliard would be an LSU lock back then.

no one was a lock in the early 1990's. the gates were open and most of the talent left. as a receiver during that time, UF was a hard place to turn down. they were changing the way the SEC played football.

Figured that was the simple answer. That UF offense was a monster. I'm sure he had an LSU offer, but was curious if he was UF all the way.

I've thrown this tidbit out here before, but I got to see Peyton Manning rip Patterson a new one in a playoff game my sophomore year. Newman came to Patterson and it was pretty ugly. I think Hilliard had an 80 yard TD run in that game, but Manning was for real. Sucked watching them go down, but that was special to watch.

I played on that Patterson team, starting strong safety, and No Peyton did not tear us up, we lost in overtime 26-20. We had the game won when the refs gave a fumble by Hillard in which he recovered to Newman. They scored right after that. We drove the ball down the field and I was tackled on the 15, we tried a field goal, missed and the game went into overtime. I hate when people exaggerate a story.

Was it at Patterson? I mean, it's been years, but I don't remember it being that close. Tried to Google it. I remember the year before....I think....where we lost on a goal line stand on the last play. One of their players was put out of the game and was on crutches, and when that happened, he threw the crutches pretty high in the air. I think it was Anthony Skinner that got stuffed. I wish that stuff was easier to find.

Hillard was all Florida and we sucked big time. I remember it all to well. Here is the nephew of Dalton and we don't eve have a shot at him. This tells you how fricking bad we were.

I don't know if you remember his older brother Ivory but that also had a lot to do with it. Ivory played for Curly at LSU and probably could have been on offense instead of playing safety. Spurrier told him he would play wr. There wasn't really anything to debate.

Worse than that. His BROTHER was the starting Strong Safety at LSU at the time, my friend, Ivory. I've asked about this and Ivory said exactly what everyone here said, UF was THE place to be as a WR.

Deuce was right 26-20 in OT, not a blowout.

Cameron Johnson scored Newman's last two touchdowns, one in overtime, to help the Greenies defeat the Patterson Lumberjacks, 26-20, in a Class 2A regional playoff game at Patterson Friday night.

The victory moved the Greenies (11-1) into the quarterfinals for the second straight year. They'll play Pickering, a 20-19 winner against Northeast, next week.

Johnson scored the game-winner on third down on a 1-yard run during the second overtime series. Patterson 's overtime possession resulted in a missed 30-yard field-goal attempt.

Peyton Manning 's 9-yard pass to Johnson set up the winning score.

Anthony Skinner's 51-yard touchdown pass to Issac Hilliard and Trey Marshall's extra-point kick with 8:50 remaining sent the game into overtime. Skinner accounted for all three of the Lumberjacks' touchdowns and blocked the Greenies' 18-yard field-goal attempt in the closing seconds of regulation.

Patterson led 7-0 after one quarter on Skinner's 23-yard touchdown run.

Newman tied the score at 7 on Manning 's 2-yard touchdown run at 11:57 of the second quarter, then the Lumberjacks took a 13-6 lead on Skinner's 1-yard run with 1:36 remaining in the half.

The Greenies took a 14-13 halftime lead by driving 74 yards in four plays, with Manning completing passes on each play. The touchdown was a 19-yarder to Michael Keck with 54 seconds remaining.

Johnson made it 20-13 on a 3-yard touchdown run with 6:30 remaining in the third quarter.

Manning completed 16 of 26 passes for 222 yards. Hilliard rushed for 115 yards in 21 carries and caught five passes for 70 yards.

I swear I remember it differently

Maybe I was just enamored by Peyton. Archie was on the field prior to the game signing autographs. Oh well, I was wrong. Over 20 years ago, and the only thing I really remember is the Hilliard TD.

I tell you what, it's near impossible finding that info on any LHSAA (did I get that right) sites. I couldn't even find when they every played.

Saw Dalton Hilliard at TJs after an LSU vs Florida game and asked him about Ike. He said that Ike did not like Curley at all and that LSU never really had a shot because of that

He went to Florida because their passing great was great. LSU was not the best place to play WR. His decision turned out great for him. Playing for Spurrier and Danny Weurffel was a WR's dream during that time.

Yeah old scores are hard to find online, unless you have a library card.

When I was in high school I had started building a website that had every score from every game along with the linked article from that game. I got just about every score and article from 1985-2004 but I never finished the site. I probably should. I see people all the time looking for old scores, stats and misremembering games.
