We need some more state-backstopped "credits" for some new industries to solve this problem.

We seem to be doing well. Wait till the petrochemical boom hits in about a year and half.

That really is shocking, I thought it would have been much higher. The real estate market is on fire, every plant and construction company is hiring a ton of people, they're setting up entire temporary towns to house workers for upcoming projects, ect. I guess all of the work that's just starting isn't being counted yet.

Give me 30% of my expenses I will employ more than anybody getting that now within 2 years.

Whatever business you elect to get in, if the state of La. elects to give you back 30% of your expenses you will be able to take much of the work for the competition by undercutting their prices.

It isn't going to happen, but I'd love some one to reimburse me 30% for the expenses I encounter doing business in La. It wouldn't be hard to make money.

Meh...I predict you're trying to use this as a negative thing on Jindal, and I'm no fan of him either. However, LA has bucked the national trend in employment growth since '08.

true. i was just calling out Freeman on his "i will employ more than anyone" statement. the film industry created roughly 14,000 jobs.

Of course I would. Pick any labor intensive public company you want and look at their net profits and none will be more than 10%. Given them a 30% advantages and they will bankrupt their competition.

I suspect that challenge is beyond your capabilities but trust me it is true.

Give it too me and in two years I will best that number by 50% and they will be real full time jobs not the hundreds of part time extras they include in that number.

I will tell you something else they will be Lousiana residents too not multimillionaire actors living in California that the film tax credits subsidize now.

I will move MSFT here if you give me that. Then try to fund that subsidy.

No. I don't think the governor has a huge impact on net GDP. Louisiana is flush with natural resources, the MS river, and cheap labor no matter who is the governor. a lot of what politicians do are trade-offs.

Picking 2008 - 2014 is a bit arbitrary. Louisiana seems to fluctuate less so we look good in a recession when other states are getting their gains wiped out. Hopefully we won't get left behind in the next national upswing. The big cities, financial, and tech hubs seem to do better in booms, though.

No doubt. Jindal crew likes to take credit for the recent booms, but it was private industry technology in regards to Haynesville and TMS. Definitely nothing government did other than just stay the hell away.

It is unfortunate that so many Louisiana families find out that if their sons and daughters want good, high paying jobs commensurate with their education levels that they have to leave the state to find work.

That is our number one problem as far as jobs go.

What's the NET Return on Investment for the state for creating these new jobs? How many normal tax dollars did the state give away to create those jobs? What was the net economic effect of creating those new jobs? Can we have a volunteer from the audience?

LINK

In 2010 the state auditor said we had a 170 million dollar LOSS. I'm sure it was worse in 2013 because we gave out more tax credits (251 million) than we did in 2010.
