Good read. I haven't read that perspective on the Cantor/Brat race.

Brat sounds like a guy we can get behind right?
That was a damn good article that pretty much tells it like it is.

I just have to complain about one part of it.
Overall, very good article.

He is a sociology professor. Brat, economics. A debate could be pure gold.

Federal Election Commission records show Cantor's PAC spent at least $168,637 on steakhouses, $116,668 on luxury hotels (including a $17,903 charge to the Beverly Hills Hotel & Bungalows) and nearly a quarter-million on airfare (with about $140,000 in chartered flights)—just in the last year and a half!
I good friend of mine writes checks to groups that support his political beliefs and, of course, once you get on their list they hound you for more and more. I told him that all his money is doing is buying somebody a really nice tie or a really nice dinner for somebody and their buddy in an elegant DC restaurant.

I read a poll that shows the majority of his district favors some form of amnesty proposed. Also that his approval rating was at 30%. I think people are trying to find reasons he lost when the reason is he's a really unlikable guy who put his personal ambitions ahead of his district.
I read another story about Cantor's attack ads. They were so over the top calling Brat a liberal college professor and a democrat that the backfired. Cantor lost credibilty.

Media Matters eh
quote:
About 72 percent of registered voters in Cantor's district polled on Tuesday said they either "strongly" or "somewhat" support immigration reform that would secure the borders, block employers from hiring those here illegally, and allow undocumented residents without criminal backgrounds to gain legal status - three key tenets of an overhaul, according to a poll by the left-leaning firm Public Policy Polling and commissioned by the liberal advocacy group Americans United for Change

Ironically, securing the borders, blocking employers from hiring illegals, and giving citizenship to illegals has nothing to do with the amnesty program that the Dems or Repubs envision.
The poll question was made to give the appearance that the voters in Cantors district favor amnesty, which was redefined in the question to mean something totally different than what our Government intends.

The PPP poll you are talking about does NOT say that at all.
It asked if there was support for "immigration reform" that would:
a) secure the border,
b) legally prohibit employers from hiring illegals,
c) give legal status to current illegals with no criminal record
That's not amnesty and that's not what anyone is actually proposing.
