Ultra Light Rod and Reel

I am in the market for an ultra light rod and reel. I have been partial to Pflueger over the years, but wanted to get the opinion of the Outdoor Board. Another question, as I have done my research on different reels, what do they amount of ball bearings in a reel matter? Does getting one with 9 really outperform one with 6 that much?

I've always just used the cheap $20 shakespeare combos for ultralights. I haven't really found that going super expensive makes a difference for them.

The various Mitchells are fantastic. Love my 300 series and my Avocet. As far as rods go, there is not much to chose from. The Falcon HD lite action is solid.

I have a 6' falcon ultralight spinning, that is probably my favorite rod I've ever owned, handles anything from bream to some pretty hefty channel cats (biggest was around 12 lbs on the scale). It's my go to rod, highly recommend it.

I second the falcon. I have a 6' LIGHT action. Great rod for throwing anything from beetle spins to light spinners and crank baits.
Pair it up with the best shimano 1000 series reel you want to buy and you have an awesome little combo.

Buy a red bionic blade BPS rod and a browning ultra light reel. Best setup I've ever owned.

For reels I would look at Cabelas. Just bought a Quantum Energy PTi for $69.99 (normally $149) and mated it with a Fenwick Eagle GT rod. Not sure if syill in stock but terrific reel. Just no reverse lever, which didn't bother me.
Match made in heaven
Rod was great deal also @40 IIRC. And rod doesnt have one of those excessively long handles either, so perfect for ultralight stuff.

My ultra lite is 5' falcon with a LEWS WMS75 spinning reel.

How do you like that Loews spinning reel? The baitcasters are pretty popular around here. End Hijack

They were super popular in the 90's. I picked it up because of that. It works great. Nice and smooth, and it was only like $29.99.

A 4000 on a light action rod? That must be some might big panfish you're after.
I think the last one I bought was the Sahara 1000. Nice little real.
I prefer the Light action rods over the ultra light because they have a little backbone. They do great working mini spooks. The ultralights just seem too flimsy for me.
Also, if you go the falcon route, don't get the HD Light action, not the same as the original. Not by a longshot.

I found that I don't use it as much as I thought but it has taken a little getting used to

I've only had experience with the 6' light action. I couldn't return it fast enough. It was too flimsy for my taste.

quote:My all time favorite white perch rod. There's nothing else like it. Just the perfect action. The more expensive lines from falcon do not have a similar rod. I find it almost too stiff though.

Different strokes. I guess if we all liked the same thing, they would only make 1.
