Because big business wants it! PERIOD.

They want cheap labor that will increase profits. Which is almost certainly short sighted.

I'm as conservative and pro business as they come but we are being deceived and the country being inadvertently led to slaughter. The politicians are bought and paid for.

Because they're fighting a losing battle politically.

Because amnesty and a secure border is the easiest way to deal with it.

Big business wants it? Seems like they would like them to stay illegal. I think the R's believe they can swing the Latino vote by pushing it. Latino voting block won't be like the black voting block though.

I'd be all for amnesty (and an extreme reduction in the difficulty of immigration) if we could eliminate the social 'safety net'. Unfortunately, that's not likely to happen, so I am a bit torn as to what to do.

Because establishment republicans think mexicans who bring their third world culture here will magically vote for the GOP if the GOP supports amnesty. It's pure crap.

I would be good with this combo, but the latter will never really be on the table with our current congress..

I think they know there will never be anything meaningful done to actually deal with the issue. May as well not let it be used against you politically for years to come.

Then amnesty shouldn't be either.

Businesses already have plenty of cheap labor. I think it's actually to increase demand.

I don't believe that's the only reason nor is it exclusive to the republicans. Big business kicks plenty of cash the democrats' way.

It's mostly because they fear that the latinos will vote as a 92% block for the democrats in a reflexive, non-critically thinking manner as the black vote does if they don't support amnesty.

Hispanics will frick the GOP no matter what they do. Maybe reform puts if off for a few years, maybe it speeds it up, but the end result is the same.

I'd be for amnesty of everyone that's already here as long as they had to pay more in taxes for a certain number of years to make up for the years they've been here on the other tax payers dime. We would have to secure our borders completely though which will never happen so amnesty with no penalty will just be an open invitation for everyone to flood the borders even more.

Because establishment repubs are figuring out that nothing has changed in the last 30 years. anti-amnesty is a huge piece of that. The amount of illegals that have crossed the past 30 years is the other part.

Get them documented, paying taxes, and kick out the felons.
Put them at the back of the line for citizenship and paying fines. But stop wishing that they voluntarily leave. Build a comprehensive plan to secure the borders and create this slow pathway to citizenship.
Then ask why this hasn't been done 30 years ago.
