We've been playing home games for about nine years. After a lot of trial and error, this is the set up we use. Tell me what you use, donk.

NL Hold 'Em.
$20 buy in with one rebuy allowed within the first hour
50k starting chips
Blinds start at 500/1000, up every 15 min. cap at 10k/20k
Usually 7-20 players, so payout varies.

This gives us a good ~3hr. game full of fun and frivolity (and alcohol) once per week.

Not a bad setup at all. Similar to what my big group back in college used to do. Sometimes we'd make it a little shorter with no rebuys depending on the number of players and how many games we wanted to play.

ETA: Homestyle games are understood "Tournament style" so technically it doesn't really need to be stated.

Chip denominations are:

500 green
1000 yellow
5000 pink
10000 orange

It's pretty simple. You can remove a zero if you choose.

Sure, whatever works for ya'll.

We just use smaller denominations. Allows for some more flexibility in betting.

When we do tournament style, we'll have everyone start with 1000.

10's, 25's, 50's, and 100's.

Blinds start at 10/25.

When we need 500's or 1000's, we go to our 5th and 6th colors. When smaller denominations become obsolete, they get traded in.

We find it just keeps the numbers simpler.

Yeah come to think of it, you should probably start with 100x big blind, not 50x. I have no idea how this game last 3+ hours

Your denominations are high.

We usually play Sunday nights at a buddy's bar, but we went to a casino here in Korea last weekend to play. It was my first time going to a Korean casino, and I was surprised to find out Koreans are not allowed in. Only foreigners. The rake was 10% on all hands with no max. Looks like it'll be my last trip to the casino in this country.

Just a cash game. No limit Hold Em, $100 buy-in max, $1/$2 blinds.

$100 buy in max for a $1/$2 game?

$1/$3 is the new thing now. Where I play, it is $100 min up to 75% big stack.

I still think max should be 100x big blind. 50x is really steep. 75 percent of big stack if late is what casinos do as well. If you do 1/2, it should be 200 dollar buy in on cash games.

2/5 is 500 dollars at casinos for a reason. It creates action for the tighter players and more well rounded for everyone IMO.

I want to play some plo but the poker room that has it near me plays it during the week. I can't play all night and still go to work. Just feel like crap if I don't sleep. Especially with having an infant in the house to keep me up.

That is how the game I play goes just with different amount of starting chips and the blinds move up every 10 min.

Add a dollar to the buy in and let it build a bad beat pot. For example, if Aces full of Jacks or better gets beat the bad beat pays out as follows:
1) half to the owner of the bad beat hand
2) the other half to all the other players with chips on the table divided equally.
It builds up pretty quick. It was over $700 the last time it busted. Adds a nice little twist and makes that bad beat easier for the owner.

Ours is set similar to the OPs as well, but when the game runs late we up blinds every rotation.

Every now and then we'd have a bad beat pot too. Our game used to rotate homes and the host could come up with an extra 'rule' should he choose. It didn't happen a lot, but when it did, bad beat was usually it. But every now and then, if you really wanted to frick up a game, host would make pocket 7-2 the automatic winning hand. Bluffing dynamics go insane.

That's a good one.

We could get the games in each night with 8 to 12 players. Sometimes had two tables going.

We use those because the pink and orange chips are actually labeled as 5/10k. It doesn't really affect the game, obviously.

I like that bad beat option. I think I'll bring it up.

Or 2 zeros..5,10,50,100 is much simpler

How much do you raise the blinds each time?

$20 buy in

$40 in chips

Blinds start at .25/.50 and double each time a player is eliminated. No buy back restrictions except the general ridicule of the table.

another thing you might want to try, if you can get a dedicated group to consistently play, is to take $5 of the $20 from everyone and set it aside every week. still pay out the top 3 or 5 or whatever from each individual tourney, but make a point system based on how people finish. play 12 games, keeping the best 10 scores, or however many you want. first place gets the pot.
