georgetown hoyas- afaik they just made up a word to use as their team name, very original

alabama crimson tide- very unique

la lakers- one of the most storied franchises in all of sports has no mascot and a name that no other team uses

I think the Milwaukee Brewers is one of the most unique, geographically relevant team names in the country.

Old college names are generally better than pros b/c they usually have some local connection instead of being chosen by a marketing committee

I really like the names that are specific to a region and are not just "insert fierce animal".

Pistons, Celtics, 76ers, Ravens, Packers, Saints, 49ers, and Brewers are all good.

The names eagles, panthers, tigers, bulldogs, lions, bears and wildcats in particular are all way too common.
