I'm in the market for a bow. Have never owned one before and am pretty clueless when it comes to them. I'm not wanting to break the bank but I don't want anything cheap either.. Also, what else will I need besides the bow itself?

If your in Baton Rouge go to Bowie Outfitters, and have them set you up...they did a great job of matching bows to my kids.

Bowies and Spillway are the places to go in BR. Bowies has last years bows on sale now. You can get a Hoyt Carbon Element for half the price it sold for just 18 months ago.

Check out huntersfriend.com. They have bow packages with everything you need in various price ranges(arrows cut to length and fletched, broadheads, stablizer, release, sights, bow case, draw length, draw weight, etc) and a complete setup shipped in the box read to go to your door. Great customer service as well. Exploring their site has alot of useful info as well.

Also, all of your leading brands making very solid entry/mid-tier level bows that can found for less than $500-600. PSE, Hoyt, Bear, Bowtech, Mathews, etc.

I bought a Bear Strike a few years ago when I was in a similar situation as you. It is a great starter bow. I'm actually looking to sell mine now and upgrade now that I know I love to bowhunt.

I'm digging my Bowtech Experience. Just buy used and you can get anything you want for a good price. Let me know if you want some pics just finished setting it up last week.

Hoyt is the way to go, but all the newer bows are good. Bear bows have came a long way and would also be a good starter bow.

Chill R with Rock mods. ChillR should be Mathews flagship not the Creed XS. Between the ChillR and the Experience i had to flip a coin.

I would highly suggest you go shoot the hoyt carbon spider. It's so smooth and quiet. I shoot a carbon element and love mine. I shot the creed and it was ok, but doesn't compare to the carbon spider in my opinion. Bowie outfitters will tell you they feel Matthews hasn't improved in the past couple years where hoyt and bowtech have really stepped their game up.

I bought a G3 last year and have enjoyed it. I got Simmons to rig it for me. I have not regrets and it only set me back $600 rigged.

I'd spend the extra $300 or so, or at least shoot it.
