What's with the sudden outrage over the Redskins name?

I'm not disagreeing with their stance to be offended by the name, but did they just recently get the memo on the name? Where have they been? Why do douchey writers like Peter King suddenly decide the name is reprehensible and they will not even call them "Redskins" when writing articles? Why haven't you maintained this stance your entire career Peter? The sudden outrage over the last year just seems silly.

Great use of funds though.....

Just that. "Sudden" (I.e., manufactured) outrage.

I think there was always a group of people offended by the name. They just didn't really have a platform until white people got involved.

it's not sudden and it's a ridiculously offensive name. It's the one that should have been attacked first, and 10+ years ago, when others were.
The outrage should be at those that strong-armed UL Monroe, Ark State and especially North Dakota into changing their names, while football factories like FSU didn't get the same treatment.

It is sudden. Nobody talked about this for years and years and all of a sudden everybody was talking about it randomly out of nowhere.

You now have writers who refuse to refer to them as the "Redskins" all of a sudden, but they had been calling them the Redskins for as long as they knew of the team before this past year. Why the outrage all of a sudden?

Not really, but even if it was, who cares?

There's been a movement against Native American mascots my entire life. It's why Syracuse and St. John's changed their mascots. It's not sudden, you're just finally paying attention.

The mass outrage is sudden. I'm not saying there wasn't groups who have been against it since the beginning.

I'm saying the issue blew up into a mainstream issue out of nowhere.

It's fairly common knowledge that FSU has the expressed written consent and permission from the Seminole Tribe of Florida. Has nothing to do with being a football factory. Congratulations on your myopia.

I'm more referring to this

As far as the Redskins go, they seemed to get the OK from native americans for years with their name, but in the last year or so have decided frick it we don't like the name anymore

It's not really up for you to decide what's offensive and what isn't.

it's definitely not sudden at all

it's just getting more media support/attention

You haven't paid any attention. FSU has the full support of the Seminole tribe. Since the actual tribe thinks it is cool, no one else challenges the name because, well, that would be fricking stupid.

This has been going on since the early 90s and it's never changed. The Native Americans aren't the ones with the problem, it's the damn liberals
