It is a very sad movie. But I think that it is as good as the book.

I enjoyed the book much more from what I remember and actually preferred sands of iwo jima over FooF. I need to watch again though as I think I am confusing parts of HBO the pacific with Flags in my head

The graphic depictions of battle in FOOF is harder to watch than the scenes in SOIJ.

I had the same problem with combining The Pacific with Flags. I was waiting to see "Sledge Hammer" and crew during the movie.

Hey I love John Wayne and all but Flags is far superior on just about every level except for Stryker being Wayne. If you want to argue Letters from Iwo Jima then we can have a discussion. Oh and the book was great.

Wasn't there one called So Sad to Fall in Battle

eta: I think maybe that was the book that the movie Letters from Iwo Jima was based on.

Flags is a great movie, Sands is a great movie, Letters is a great movie. I've never seen The Outsider (1961).

The source material seems to guarantee a good product, though. Flags is the best film, overall. Letters is the best straight drama, and Sands is the best "war" movie, if any of that makes sense.
