I never really change mine unless I break one or if I don't play for an extended period of time (which can be 6-12 months depending on how much I'm on my violin).

How often do you change? What are your favorite type of strings?

You can tell a significant difference after 1 month?

Every couple of months unless I break one. I'm a big fan of Elixers, but if I'm not trying to spend as much money Ernie Balls work fine.

not as often as I should...in the old days I'd change my acoustics once a month

I don't change mine unless they break, or when I start to see the color fade pretty bad.

What acoustic strings do y'all use? I've got some light Elixers on right now

Every couple of months on my acoustic....Elixirs are what I usually run. On my electrics, hardly ever.

Pretty rarely unless I'm going to record something. My favorite brand for electric is DR and I use the Martin Clapton strings for acoustic.

I have two acoustic guitars and two electric, I change my electric every month, with my acoustic I feel I get a better sound 4 or even 6 months without a change (Of course without a break in strings) it gets a fatter sound to me personally.

Every couple of months. Cleartones are the way to go for acoustics.

I have 4 guitars; I change strings every 6 weeks. I use D'Addario Lights on all of 'em (3 6-strings and 1 12-string) ... more out of habit than anything else.

I play 1-2 hours a day on weekdays, and 2-3 hours a day on weekends. When I had just 2 acoustics, the things would sound mushy after 4 weeks or so. Now I've added 2 more acoustics, so I can go longer between string changes ... but I hate the sound of flat, mushy strings, so I'll always change sooner than later.

I'm going to try the Elixir strings next since it seems that's what most people use. I appreciate all the advice... I don't play too much guitar, but I just dusted mine off after not touching it for 6 months or so.

Varies, but the sound of new strings is so much better. Elixir Poly here too.

Electric guitars- D'addario XL 11's & Rotosound 11's. Ernie Ball's sound good but just dont last nearly as long for me.
-Before every show when playing live
-once a month when practicing at home
-before every recording session unless that same guitar will be used multiple days in a row

Acoustic guitars- Elixir Nanoweb Light
-almost never if just practice guitars (once every 2 months)
-before every recording session

Not since 1995. When I honestly evaluated my lack of talent.
Me thinks that the world is a lot better off since I gave up my dream of being an awesome musician.

I've had my acoustic for a year now and haven't changed the strings. I guess it's time. I was thinking about this yesterday and almost made a thread on it
