Will 5 Megabits suffice considering no more than 2 devices will ever be used at the same time. Realistcally, only 1 device will be used 75% of the time.

Consistent 1080p on one device I would recommend at least 8.

1MBps???

That is overkill. 5 Mbps is fine and is actually recommended by Netflix.

I find that 3 offers the best value to buffer ratio.

5 Mbps will do the job fine using only 1 device at a time but if you plan to have 2 streaming (or gaming) I'm betting it don't fly - at least, not upright.

I've found that your device/app can effect this as much as your download speed.

it depends on the ISP. I don't do streaming frequently, but I find even with 25mbs it can get choppy if I have a lot of other things using bandwidth

Sometimes I wonder if it even matters. Everytime I stream Netflix it is HD to start but say 30 minutes in TWC throttles it back. So even if you have 10Mbps you will never fully use it once the ISP knocks down the connection.
