Top 3 people who have shaped the way you see the world

1) Thomas Sowell. Every page of "The Vision of the Anointed" seemed to be an epiphany. He's the one who really opened the door to my current worldview.
2) My Dad. I was able to see first hand that ANYONE can start and run a successful business. W/O his example, I would probably still believe that the "1%" run and own everything...like I did over a decade ago.
3) Tom Woods. Over the last 5 years, this guy has had the most eye opening lectures/speeches I've seen and have really pushed me from "conservative" to "libertarian".
Interested to see what others on the PB have to say about this....especially those of the Liberal persuasion.

Reading certain authors hasn't influenced your worldview one way or the other?

Yeah, Rothbard is pretty amazing.
I wish there were some debates featuring him rolling around on the net.

Interesting question that I don't have an answer to right now.
I'll be thinking it over and hopefully this thread is still going tomorrow.

Politically, if I'm being honest, it's probably Jon Stewart and Bill Maher. I've been watching both for a decade, and was more or less receptive to their views. On the conservative side, probably the ubiquitous George Will or Nick Gillespie at Reason, who along with Ron Paul, made me more open to aspects of libertarianism.
I'm going well beyond your 3 person suggestion now, but I think I absolutely have to include George W Bush, and the blowhards at Fox, for living up to every negative conservative stereotype.

Just so you know, you may be a dirty liberal right now but I actually see you as the second coming of SFP on this board.
It's pretty much common knowledge people get more conservative/libertarian as they get older.

My world view has come from 9 years of college and reading about history since as well a current events. I can't think of one sole person who influenced me much less three.

I think you have to break this down into different subjects. (that is if you read and expose yourself to different sources) IE:
Socioeconomic: Sowell (hard to argue his perspective and points)
Life in General: Dostoevsky
Government from yesteryear to today: Jefferson "Whenever the people are well-informed, they can be trusted with their own government."
Struggle: Confucius "When it is obvious that the goals cannot be reached, don't adjust the goals, adjust the action steps."
Education: ""The test of a good teacher is not how many questions he can ask his pupils that they will answer readily, but how many questions he inspires them to ask him which he finds it hard to answer." *Unknown
If it is all on the line and there are no rules I fall back to: Sun Tzu

De Tocqueville was a whisker away from being mentioned by name in my above post. Good choices there.

Milton Friedman: Started watching his old videos while in college and it shaped me into an economic libertarian.
Barry Goldwater: Probably the presidential candidate most aligned with what The Constitution stands for. If I were to reverse any presidential election in recent memory, it's easily 1964.
Clint Eastwood: I know, I know. But his "leave me alone" brand of libertarianism appealed to me while in college.
