For those who plant sunflowers, do yall leave them standing?

Also when you burn, do you burn all at once or cut strips and burn starting a few weeks before season

I think you need to decide if this is a one hunt field or a multi hunt/ season field. This can change management...

Let flowers grow and dry.

Cut strips as desired throughout the seasons to get seed on the ground.

Ive heard of people putting tarps down with salts and gravel.

Never tried it though

The place I am hunting has a lake with sand bar, gravel road, and powerline.

Probably saw 100 yesterday while digging in the dirt

While effective, it's also illegal as hell. Same as dumping out piles of wheat. To the OP, like already metioned, we bushhog strips. Next split bushhog a little more, next split bushhog a little more. Burning is a good method if you let your field get too grassy. But the key to a good dove field is to not let it get too grassy. We put out a concoction of herbicides/pre-emerge chemicals when planting, then come back and spray it with Select (non-broadleaf killer) in the event it gets grassy when the plants are growing.
