Figured I might give that a shot instead of getting a new phone.

cyanogenmod might be the easiest way on that S3. They have an installer that will do it all for you. Backup the data on your phone first.

glad it worked out. How was the auto installer? I've only used CM by installing the old fashioned way before.

Tell me more. I may want to try this on my wife's S3. Did the auto installer pretty much work like it is explained on the CM website? How long did the entire process take? Did you make a backup of your phone first? If so, what app did you use for that? Also is it possible to wipe out Cyanogenmod and revert back to factory default settings if you wanted to for some reason?

I used the installer on my nexus 4 when it first came out. It was simple enough that a non-techie could have done it. Reverting back to nexus stock was a bit more of a challenge. I don't know about the S3, but I'd research the effort to revert back before installing CM.
