It takes two to tango, so to speak. If someone thinks "reparative therapy" is what they need, then the state of Texas will not stand in the way of someone seeking it out by banning its practice.

Can't get much more libertarian than that. No one is being forced into "reparative therapy," as the breathless drive-by media is insinuating.

It is unnecessary to openly claim a position, its simply understood by most how absurd this is. Sorta like how one need not preface a thread about a rape story with the fact that they disapprove of rape.

This kind of stuff is why republicans have trouble getting elected despite widespread disillusion with the democrats.

It isnt about what people are and are not forced to do, its about how otherwise fully functioning human beings in 2014 can publicly support this idea in any capacity.

quote:

To say this is an unchangeable thing, there are too many people who've changed their mind about homosexuality. No one can change the color of their skin or change the place they're born, but they can definitely choose their lifestyles," she added.

What we see time and again from people who claim to have been cured of homosexuality is merely a conscious suppression of their true feelings. Its why so many end up seeking homosexual relationships out "secretly", especially online, after supposedly being cured.

Its an unhealthy practice that lead to psychological damage and depression. The rate of suicides among people sent to "gay therapy" is absurdly high.

Why would this even be part of your platform? Obv they embrace it to play to their base.

This is basically praying the gay away and some quack putting nonsense into your head instead of helping you embrace your identity and yes that includes sexual identity with sexual orientation.

Swing and a miss for Texas republicans.

Texas Republicans have adopted a party platform that includes support for voluntary psychological "therapy" targeted at converting homosexuals to heterosexuals
Surely that would be covered under the all-inclusives of Obamacare. Right?

Seems at least as important as coverage of hysterectomy for men, or orchiectomy for women.

What you said.

You should be free to get the therapy you want.

It's none of the state's business.

We need therapy to remain safe and legal. No back alley therapy.

I don't think it'll work, its dumb, but it shouldn't be illegal. As long as the govt. isn't paying for this therapy, I'm fine with it.

"We recognize the legitimacy and efficacy of counseling, which offers reparative therapy and treatment for those patients seeking healing and wholeness from their homosexual lifestyle. No laws or executive orders shall be imposed to limit or restrict access to this type of therapy."

Platforms, generally, are just bullshite position papers. But that's one of the dumbest things I've ever read. So they oppose any law that would restrict access to counseling if a person desires it. Who the frick has suggested that there be a law restricting access to such counseling?
