WWDC is a gathering of people who build software applications for Apple hardware devices—from the iPhone and the iPad to the Mac—and with its new language, dubbed Swift, Apple is apparently providing a much faster and more effective means of doing so, significantly improving on its current language of choice, Objective-C. With something that Apple calls an “interactive playground,” Swift is even exploring a highly visual kind of programming that may go beyond other mainstream languages.

So basically, Apple saw how shitty .NET was and decided to do something similar?

Let the people who know how to code, code. frick all this pre-written, bloated modules that people use to make software that performs like shite and requires way too many system resources.

At least that's how I feel about .NET

I worked on coding for about a month. That shite is tough.

This. You've never coded until you've done it in assembler.

Dude don't you have like a physics degree and a PhD in Finance on top of that? Now you know about coding too? You contribute to highly technical finance discussions on the Money board and you also weigh in on WYHI/WOWYHI threads on the OT. You have to be like the most well rounded poster on this site.

I studied for the Ph.D. but didn't finish it. Probably a good thing in hindsight. My degree was in Physics, there's some crossover in the math with certain areas of Finance. But there weren't any finance jobs in Louisiana involving securitization and Wall St. firms weren't hiring many LSU grads. You learn how to code quite a bit in Physics so it was a natural thing to do.

And what red-blooded male wouldn't weigh in to WYHI threads?

ETA: There were a couple of situations where I did have to write simple assembler code for some microcontroller chip back in the day. SQL and perl are much easier.

Simplifying coding language is nice sometimes. I enjoy programming in Python over C because the code practically writes itself. Plus it's easier to prototype in.

What I do want is for people to have an understanding of computer architecture. Understand algorithms, and understand how to write clean and elegant code.

It'll never happen.

Honestly if I could convince someone to keep it simple so that someone else could maintain it after they left, I would be happy.

Of course commenting would help, but most people write comments for comments sake just to pass the requirement
