I recall a thread from a week or so ago about the certainty of Laird being drafted and the possiblity of him signing . What gives??

-Arm, can't turn on a lot of pitchers, -power. He's a great college player and will be drafted but unless he does some serious upper body development to generate some power, it won't be very high. I think he can be a good pro player, but I'm no scout.

Not trying to flame the guy but the only real talent he displayed this year was his speed. He is a slap hitter that had a down year (compared to last year) and his arm is very suspect. Hopefully he can work to improve these things because he is a great athlete and his improved play may be a catalyst for next season. Imagine the nightmare for other teams if both he and Stephenson hit .340 or better next season.

Probably because he put it out there that he was coming back to school. He was on some top 500 prospect lists earlier in the season.

Imagine if they learn how to steal bases. And yes Stephenson needs to show some power next year. Don't see that happening for Laird

There was also talk about Tyler Moore going in the 30th round and Jared Foster going in the 10th.

No one here knows jack shite about the MLB draft

with his speed, he should be stealing 20+ bases easily and he's not.

Hopefully he improves in this area over the offseason

Baserunning has been a weak spot for Manieri's teams since he started here.

I think Laird will be a 4-year player, personally. And that is a great thing. His quiet leadership, coupled with Bregman's fiery demeanor, will greatly benefit our Tigers the next two years.

Is it crazy to think Bregs could stay 4 years as well?

Yep. Even the guys who know what they're doing are only close for a round or two, then it's a free for all because there are so many factors: senior/junior, signability, "that number", money saved/spent, etc.

Assuming we don't bring it all home next year, he strikes me as the type of cat who would be SO PISSED that he decides to stay another year in order to validate his time at LSU with a national championship... I hope I'm right, stranger things have happened.

He seems like the kinda guy that knows the money and instruction will be waiting on him after he's done, regardless of when that is.

That said, money talks and we all know what walks.

Because teams like the Padres would rather throw away a pick on Johnny Manziel than draft a guy who could actually help their team.

There are plenty of sites that know a lot about it and still get it wrong because all they can do is speculate based on talent. No one can gauge the exact impact signability will have. The baseball draft isn't just based on talent and need.
