So are there any liberals on the board who would honestly admit that Obama has played the democratic party, pushing them so far left that they can't even see the center anymore? Just 20 years ago, the majority of the democratic party leaders would NEVER had stood for some of the crap that Obama has pulled in the last 5 years. (See for example Harry Reid's conservative position on illegal immigration long before he started to look like Granny Clampett).

Obama is Bill Clinton redux, not very left at all.

He passed healthcare reform without single payer or even a public option that the left wanted, we're still in Afghanistan, Guantanamo is still open, he's dragged his feet on climate change until now, and he's deported over 2 million illegal immigrants. He's not far left unless you're observing from the far right.

Exactly, but some on the right would have you think he's Karl Marx.

Obama has drifted further to the left than others.

That being said, it is a specific left. It is his left and only his left. His left has a strong federal government that actually prefers the NSA and other spying techniques so he can keep us safe from ourselves.

He also, as has been spouted on this board till the cows come home, is a big advocate for taxation and government welfare type programs. People often refer to this as income redistribution.

I could continue about other things he believes, but at the end of the day, he believes the ends justify the means. And he is shortsighted.

That all being said, I think the republicans have drifted further over to the right than before as well. Hell, we have political candidates saying that the earth could be 6k years old and that ID should be taught in the school. We have moronic candidates who say that women get pregnant when raped because they want to get pregnant.

I think both sides have drifted further apart, perhaps because the moderates of each party often do not get involved in the primaries and thus you have the really political people getting involved driving the candidates further and further from the middle.

I'll agree with this. He's primarily a fiscal liberal, and less concerned with other elements of the democratic agenda. It's probably not what the fiscally moderate highly educated suburbanites who were so important to his coalition were expecting.

Oh he is indeed far left. He's the most left leaning POTUS in history. Fortunately he's incompetent too.

I don't think the Democratic Party got played but the Independents and anti-Romney Republicans that voted for Obama sure did. Here was a new face, which happened to be black, of politics that spoke a good game and promised with conviction there was a new vision of hope and change.

IMO, he has failed miserably as a whole for the nation but has been a Godsend for those with social agendas which is not always good for the nation as a whole.

Safe from ourselves? Meaning that the American people aren't to be trusted and an all seeing government must monitor and control their actions and thoughts?

Before it can be re distributed, it must be confiscated even if through illegal means.

You are being way too kind.

All of whom command a very tiny slice of the Republican constituency but are useful to the left as a scare tactic.

Can't disagree with that.

I don't know any of these people, they held their nose and voted for Romney. These are partisan times we live in and the left does the same. All about the brand and not the individual which is probably arse backwards.

On what issues is he to the left of the majority of his party?

You are delusional. W added Medicare prescription benefits.

Not thinking evolution is false doesn't make him super liberal. He is more centrist than you want to admit.

He's definitely in far left field. Clinton was way left of center his first two years in office until it appeared he may be a one term president then he drifted more to the center.

Hillary is just as left as Obama and much more competent.

Sure you do. They were the people that stayed home in disgust of Romney and didn't vote. A no vote for Romney was a vote for Obama.

How so? Seriously what has she done except being the left's darling?
She totally screwed the pooch with her national health care effort.
She carpetbagged a Senate Seat, where her legislative record, while better them Obama's, isn't very outstanding.
She parlayed the "stand by your man" thing into initially a run for the Democrat nomination, then into the SOS job.
Where are her laurels in that? Middle East? China? Russia? N.Korea?
Her resume is pretty bland, except of course for her being the smartest woman in the world and we love her because she is a woman and electing her would be historic, blah blah blah.

I'm hoping Hillary gets elected in 2016. The time for a female President has come. I just hope she gets on board with the legalization of drugs and dismantling of the war machine. We need to push for more light manufacturing as well as vocational/community college training for workforce development in this country. College is not meant for everyone and it would help grow the middle class.
