recently lost one of my jobs.

I've been working two jobs and in the National Guard deploying next year. What is a easy way to cut some everyday costs for utilities

Keep your AC at 78 during the day. Keep lights off as much as possible.

Dump the expensive cable/satellite package and replace it with an antenna and a Netflix or Amazon Prime subscription.

Get rid of your land line phone and go with one of the many VoIP providers who only charge $12 a month.

Get a prepaid phone without a data plan and save your internet activity for your home computer.

Change landline to a VOIP (or eliminate altogether) - I'm $50 to the good, this year.

Cut cable to the bare minimum or get by on internet only.

Change your A/C filters regularly - perhaps even get a tune up/service package - I've been getting mine regularly serviced for a year, and my bill is down 8 to 10 percent.

There are cheap window tint films that can cut your A/C bill - particularly if you live in an old house with thin/noninsulated windows.

Replace bottled water or bottled water service with a Brita or other manual filter system.

Raise the A/C up 1 to 2 degrees in the summer.

Re-evaluate your cell bill and see if you can go with a cheaper package.

Suddenlink's internet package, for whatever reason I'm not sure, is cheaper with a land line.

Suddenlink are a bunch of crooks. frick them.

I moved from cable to a Netflix/Hulu deal because of how we watch TV and now I get charged extra for internet usage. They also charge for a modem rental. A bunch of scum bags.

Ooma is good.

Digital antennae for TV and project free tv

beans and rice

mow grass or wash houses on the side--u can rent a pressure washer once you get a house to wash if you can't afford to buy one.

Put the A/C at any the highest you can stand at night, augment them with ceiling fans (fans use very little electricity).

Find any kind of side job which will pay you in cash.

Wait on any elective dental or medical expenses.

Obviously your entertainment costs (dining, playing, travel) should be scrutinized.

Unnecessary travel should be eliminated.

Good luck.

Live like a student. You remember this, right?

As others have said, cut the cable service and go with internet only. If you're ambitious ditch the cell phone too. People actually lived without them once upon a time.

Eating lots of beans and rice is not only good for you but delicious. Poor farmers all over the world do this all their lives.

Go Guard!

Depends of how desperate times are, cell phones, internet service, and television service are all luxuries you can live just fine without. If you get down to basics as well as follow some of the other advice in this thread you may not even need a second job. Enjoy your year before deployment a lot more without paying for things you will not have anyway on deployment.

Don't leave flat screen tvs running if you are not watching. They make a lot of heat.

If you have a washer and dryer, dry clothes at night. Use a towel more than once. Wait and wash full loads in cold water.

Unplug all those chargers when you are not using them. They pull power.

Buy a cheap 20 inch box fan ($17 bucks at lowes) and put it on the floor in front of where you sit.
Hot air rises, so the fan will circulate cooler air near the floor. The fan has a handle and you can move it beside your bed at night. Take a tepid shower before bed and cool your body if you are raising the temp on AC.

Turn off lights when you don't need them. Keep curtains and blinds closed during heat of the day.

Good luck. I will be lighting a candle for you.

that one had me stumped too. unless it's an electric dryer and you're on one of the free/discounted evening electric plans.

Naw, it's just cooler at night. Dryers, like ovens heat a house. I've been known to dry clothes at midnight.
