Tonight. Middleweight title fight, from Madison Square Garden. HBO PPV

Both guys are true champions. I love both of them. But Martinez is bigger, stronger, faster, and more technically skilled IMO. Unless an injury limits his performance, I'll take Martinez by mid-round KO.

Either way, I can't wait to watch.

That face-off on HBO was epic

LINK

It really all comes down to Sergio's knee: if he's healthy, he dominates Cotto; if he's bothered by it, he's going to struggle. I really didn't like the way he looked against Murray and I realize that he was fighting a true middleweight unlike Cotto who's much smaller, but he's now 39 and hasn't fought in 16 months.

But I think (and hope) Martinez makes Cotto pay for all the BS he's been demanding. Martinez is the champ yet it's Cotto who's making all the demands. I agree with Martinez that Cotto is nothing but a diva and I wanna see the true champ give him a reality check.

I loved when Martinez told him something like "you call yourself an A-side fighter yet you've never beaten an A-side". BOOM!

Let's go Maravilla!!!!!!!!!

Man this one is good, the knee and the fact Sergio has been knocked down late in the last two fights negates all his other attributes. Speed is fine, but he needs to cut up or knock out Cotto.
Cotto is just a tough fighter, who has actually developed into more than a one punch threat.
It will be good. No doubt.

On a limb here, Cotto in a TKO 11

I can get on board with this. I'm hoping to see a renewed and healthy Martinez tonight.

The thing to remember is Sergio has legit power and Cotto has always had a suspect chin. I think one hard shot will put Cotto on his bicycle.

I wonder how bad Sergio's knee really is. Watched 24/7 earlier and it looked like Cotto's camp made a big deal out of the knee brace Sergio was wearing in camp

I'm wondering about that as well. I don't think he's fully recovered and when you factor in the layoff and age it's a bad sign.

His power is the only weapon if his knee gives him trouble.

I don't think Freddie is cashing out Cotto...I think they see an old fighter with knee problems and they're gonna take advantage of it.

I don't really think that's fair. The only times Cotto's been KO'd were against a prime Pacquiao and against Margarito's possibly loaded gloves.

Cotto-Margarito I is still one of my favorite fights ever because of the amount of toughness and determination demonstrated by each fighter.

I'm hopeful that he is fully recovered. I mean, it's been over one year since his last fight.

I agree that Freddie and Cotto probably think they have a chance of winning. But I tend to side with Martinez's trainer, who basically has said that there's not much new that Cotto can be taught. In other words, hiring Freddie isn't enough to bridge the gap between Cotto and Sergio.

He doesn't have a great chin, though. From his early fights against Ricardo Torres and Chop Chop Corley to his fights against Margarito and Pacquiao he's been rocked a lot. He doesn't have a glass jaw but it's definitely suspect and Sergio is a big man compared to the 154ers he's been fighting.

Official prediction: Sergio TKO 8

Cotto has his moments but ultimately Sergio's size and strength will take over. Cotto will land some shots though because Sergio doesn't have the speed and reflexes he used to have. However, a few good clean shots to the jaw of Cotto will turn the tide.

I still think what Sergio loses in athleticism he will gain strength from having to play the b-side even though he's the true champion at 160 thanks to Cotto and his diva attitude.

I also agree with the other poster that Cotto doesn't have a suspect chin. I do agree with your pick to the round based on Martinez' speed and power. He's just a bigger, more athletic guy. And though being 39, he started late and hasn't suffered as much brain trauma as Cotto. I love Cotto though. This should be a good one.

Unless Sergio's legs are completely gone this is an epic mismatch.

PPV starting now. This undercard sucks. Andy Lee-John Jackson is the only interesting fight prior to the main event.

Both men at 100%, Martinez wins a fairly easily, imo. Like everyone has been saying, the health of Sergio makes this fight tonight more suspenseful since no one really knows how he'll hold up physically.

I'll say Sergio decision with Cotto having his moments in the second half of the fight.
