Right now, I have an iPhone 5 (with an LTE data plan). I just ordered a Nexus 5. I've searched all over and understand that I can use the Nexus 5 WITH LTE on AT&T's network, but I cannot find clear instructions on switching over. I know that I have to go to a corporate AT&T store to get a new sim. What exactly do I need to tell them to deactivate my iPhone and activate my new Nexus? I've read that many people have trouble getting LTE data to work, and I want to make sure I get it on the new phone. I've also read that many AT&T store employees do not know how to process this change, and that AT&T may or may not have the correct "IMEI profile" for this phone, resulting in only getting 3G/HSPA (no LTE) data.

Has anyone successfully done this?

I got the girlfriend one on att after I dropped her S3 in the water. I think the S3 had the same sim card. We just switched the sim card over and everything works fine including LTE.

I wouldn't worry about it. Does the iPhone sim card not fit the nexus? If not, just tell them you need a new sim and pop it in.

FYI, I prefer the Samsung line up of phones over the nexus 5 if you have an upgrade.

If it doesn't work out of the box then try this:

Att LTE Nexus 5 Settings

I made the switch from iPhone years ago and after you get the swing of Android I much prefer it!

Yeah, the iPhone 5 has a nano sim, while the Nexus has a micro. So, I can't just swap them. I actually got the Nexus since it didn't require me to sign a new contract OR pay 500-700 for a new phone. If I end up sticking with Android I'll use my upgrade later this year on a Samsung.

You can pay att $25 for a new sim card or buy a sim adapter for just a few bucks online. I use the sim adapters.

You don't have to change SIM cards. But if you want to use LTE data and not just hspa you have to go to the ATT store(or over the phone) to have them them input the correct IMEI number as mentioned.

This shouldn't be out of a normal occurence because anyone switching Sim cards from an iPhone to any other type of phone has to do this for their data to be correct.

I did this. Took 10mins after visitnf att store.

Edit: should mentioned that att has to update the imei profile when switching between iPhone <--> blackberries <--> other phones. So if you were switching between a non-iphone/blackberry to the nexus 5 this would be a non-issue.

Final edit: I'm driving currently but when I get home. I can post how to find your imei number to give them

Listen to me. I literally did this on Wednesday. Had a Samsung Galaxy S2. Bought the Google Play Edition Nexus 5 and it was delivered on Wednesday. I went to the AT&T store and told them I needed to activate the phone. The employee got a new Sim card, put it in the phone, activated it, handed it to me, and I walked out of the store. I was in there 8 minutes tops. (I also didn't need them to perform any contact swap, etc because I had everything backed up in my Google drive account, etc) I'm sure that saved the most time.

No activation fee and no charge for the Sim card. I couldn't believe it. I expected teeth pulling because AT&T customer service has always been poor IMO and their new plan structure, etc. tries to screw you if you upgrade your phone. That's why I paid full price for the unlocked Nexus 5 because AT&T couldn't do shite about it plan wise.

Phone has worked great so far coverage wise and I love the pure Android experience. The phone is blazing compared to my previous dinosaur.
