Maybe instead of a jerk that puts up a fake nice act with fans/media/the public, he's actually a really nice guy who is just a jerk to people he's directly competing against?
There are tons of people I know that are nice as they can be but end up getting pissed on occasion at work, that's just life.
I know nothing at all about Phil so I can't contribute anything of substance. But it seems like if he's doing one thing 90% of the time and another thing 10% of the time..his "true" self would be the 90. And yes, I realize there are obvious exceptions like people who murder and whatnot.

I've only met Jack once, but he always came off a little less warm than Palmer and others. He was certainly nice, but he still has a little bit more of a serious/business demeanor, from what I've seen.

I took a photo of him during the pro-am way back in the day when he played at Lakewood. He stopped and smiled for the picture. Very accommodating to his fans, but yeah, he's not gonna sit back and have a conversation with you.

Hey cat. U have no idea what u are talking about. And I'd bet u don't know any tour players, just read an article where some said he was an a-hole because he wouldnt play with them. He chooses his own foursomes because he gambles huge. Not a dick but he isn't the nicest. The caddies and players I know said he always says hi to them.
