Instead of a Yak, I Bought a Sea Eagle Foldcat, and I'm Very Impressed

After deciding I wanted to buy something to fish "on the water," I ultimately bought one of these about a month ago.

I decided against a traditional boat partially due to cost, but mostly due to storage of a boat/trailer. I nearly opted for a nice kayak, but I knew I wanted to be able to fish with the kids.

Enter the Sea Eagle Foldcat. This thing is great. Fits in the wife's van, set up takes about 20min.

We can fish standing up (very stable), and I've even run trotlines with it. We've been tearing up the bluegill & bass!

Very durable, I have drug it over rocky shores and hit trees with no issue.

That's pretty cool, but I would, no doubt, bust those damn pontoons the first time I went out and have to swim back. My luck is not the best.

Those pontoons inflate? I would be hesitate to bring it anywhere near oysters.

Thats a cool option if you wanted to go with someone, but right now, little rich is only 1, so it may be a while before that is needed. Have fun on it man, take some pics of your hoists from it.

I wondered about that, but it doesn't seem to be an issue. The manufacturer likens the material to alligator hide, and it truly is tough.

I looked for complaints prior to buying, and really couldn't find many.

How does the cost compare?

And would it make it through Hurricane Delacroix?

my biggest concern, it is "hook proof" ?

inflatables and sharp hooks don't get along to well

Yep, 1500 is a bit pricy for a product like that, when a yak works just fine.

god damn. i'd buy 2 or 3 yaks for that price.

that being said, i already have a 12' bateau, so obviously a boat like that wouldn't really buy me any functionality i don't have already. i hope the OP loads the boat every time he's out. it sounds like a good fit for what he wants to do with it. [ETA: especially considering the kids.]

We've got a pair of Sea Eagle kayaks as well as a pair of regular kayaks. I got the Sea Eagles simply because of space limitations in our camper van and don't regret it at all. I've been on oysters a number of times and have never had a leak.

Same price as many of the yaks out there, cheaper than the ones you peddle instead of paddle

What happens when you set the hook, miss the fish, and that Chug Bug comes flying back into the pontoon?

I don't miss fish though, that's more for your own knowledge/planning purposes.
