FAMILY CALLS 911 FOR HELP WITH SPECIAL NEEDS DAUGHTER, COPS SHOW UP AND SHOOT HER DEAD

quote:

“There was a confrontation where the deputy was in fear for his life and as a result he fired his weapon.” Deputy Rebecca Rosenblatt told local news station KNTV, adding that the incident occurred within 20 seconds of arriving to the scene.

quote:

“We have deputies that were responding to the scene with the information that somebody was acting in a psychotic nature armed with a knife and won’t put it down even for her own family,” Rosenblatt added.

However, the girl’s brother, Tiny Serrano, told reporters that it was the family who called 911 requesting paramedics because his sister had not taken her medication.

“Instead they decided to send a deputy to the house,” he said.

i mean... if she lunged at the officer I really can't say I blame him.

Honest question, where do we stand on less than lethal weapons like fast acting tranquilizers?

Honestly, I don't understand why police officers can't be trained to handle these situations appropriately. Just use a tranquilizer gun on a psychotic patient like this and have her strapped down in an ambulance and transported to a hospital.

I'm reminded of that case with the mentally ill kid a few months back where the deputy shows up while two other officers are working on the kid, says "we don't have time for this", and shoots the kid dead within 2 minutes of arriving.

That sack of shite was charged with murder IIRC.

If she has a knife, a stun gun would have been just as effective... She would have to be within a few feet to cause you harm.

Read my quote up a few, the neighbors are claiming that the girl was shot in the back...

Tranqs are an issue because they have to be dosed correctly for the individual.

Too little and they don't go down.

Too much and the individual dies because their body functions slow down too much to breathe or pump blood.

Tasers have similar issues because they can induce heart attacks and so forth.

The best alternative may end up being an extendable baton used to disarm the suspect, even if it involves breaking their arm.

The only way this would be remotely justifiable would be if she was going after one of the family (thus, with back to the deputy)

So, a grown arse man, specifically TRAINED in hand to hand grappling in the police academy, armed with a taser and wearing body armor that will stop a knife, can't come up with SOME way to restrain this girl that isn't deadly?

What in the name of frick kind of pussies are we recruiting as cops these days?

Why spend all that time and money during training having them do any type of physical exercise or hand to hand techniques? Just teach them the law, and how to shoot to kill. That's all they seem to be good for anyway.

Likely not in body armor... But would def have a vest and likely a baton. Extent the baton and when she gets close, swing at the hand with the knife. You would likely break her wrist and she would drop the knife.

That would be a pretty dangerous shot. Using the people you claim to be protecting as a back stop for your bullets is a no no.

They're not teaching them how to shoot from what I'm hearing.

Cops are by far worse shots that private gun owners.

Granted, anecdotal evidence like the Christopher Dorner manhunt also doesn't help their case.

I know first hand of a situation where a family did not call the cops in the exact same scenario for fear they'd shoot the family member having the episode.

Unfortunately, he ended up stabbing and killing a fellow family member.

It's just a tough situation all around.

This is exactly the way I see it. It's a scary choice.

Houston had a VERY similar situation recently where an old timer with some sort of mental illness had a knife and the cops ended up shooting him dead after he lunged. Not quite sure people get up in arms when the cops life is on the line.

Should the cop potentially lose his life b/c someone had a mental illness? Some good that has come out of this, however, is that a lot of the PD's are taking proactive measures and "training" about how to deal with the mentally ill when they get a call out for a disturbance.

They need to slow cook that fricking pig. You don't kill a kid for lunging at you with a knife. You disarm her. Even if you do get stabbed in the process. You're a cop, you're trained and she's special needs. Most single stab wounds aren't fatal so you buck up and get the knife away from her. If you can't do that, you have no business being a police officer.

the cop should've broken out some bread and mayo. the girl's womanly instincts would've kicked in and she would've made him a sandwich.
